    Weren't killmails in from launch?
I didn't start playing until 2006 (like a scrub) and I'm pretty sure we have very well established killboards by then, and before that the remnants of forum threads for the same.

What changed is that they used to be actual eve-mails, hence the name.

I remember them having less fittings info when it was done via mail. Only showing dropped mods, or something like that.

Daily reward pack had women's shoes & trousers in. Tease for the return of Walking in Stations? One can only hope.

Nah, it took years to get killmails. And during the time they were not there the forum wars raged on battle stats. The obsession of # kills has been there from day 1.
And back then it sort of made sense, you could end wars through resource depletion and decisive wins in a fight(s) but it hasnt been relevant since the day you could conquer/own space.

Looks like it was about 1 year after release.
Earliest I could find in an internal forum trawl is below (the end of a terrible terrorist), and it looks like everything beforehand is people talking about the fights but no consistent data/formatting, as you say.

    Holy shit!
Yeah, remember people posting like endless killmails in posts and shit. I blame old age and and fucking 16-17 years for thinking it didnt come in until a few years later.
But wasnt it that it also had issues where not all killmails would come in? Or maybe that was later with more mass events and DD's?

They got lost, sometimes an enemy got the killing blow or something like that (the mails were only sent to the player dealing the final blow) and also they had a size limit and that meant stuff got cut off when enough players were on the mail.

With how borked eves economy is, how losses impact your killboard efficiency matter more than the dent in your wallet, anyway.

Yeah, Battleclinic (I think that was the main one most people used) was a thing way back then but of course, it was manual upload of killmails.

Back in the never, never it was manual upload or gtfo. IIrc it was a couple of players who banjo'd the first recognised data harvester together ... possibly from API info, and CCP decided to help them out.

... holy shit that was a long time ago.
Shitting up eve for .... well, longer than most of you scumbags.

I doubt that the first "data harvesting" (aka no manual KM upload) was based on any API. IIRC, the official first API came after it. It did include KMs, so that's when *whowasitagain?* did put together that KB that then became the quasi standard. Before the official API became a thing, CCP somewhat OK'd Entity's Python cache parser Reverence.

    Memories, indeed.
