    How to seduce your ISP?

Too lazy to use search function, so here goes:

My connection is absolute dogshit since the beginning of the year. First i thought the specific servers were the issue, but now literally everything lags. 1-5mbit downspeed on a 100mbit broadband (cable).

    Even 8.8.8.8 is borderline unreachable:

Am i correct in assuming that i am getting fucked by my ISP? Pretty sure the hardware on my end is fine.

And assuming that, how do i get past the mountains of automated bullshit and "try switching it off and on again" to an actual person who will run diagnostics on their end?

Ive had issues before, but never this persistently. And while my main interest is of course the gaymez, i also should/need to be able to remote into work.

First thought: ISP might be throttling your connections if you've used a bunch of bandwidth or may be gaying it up with deprioritizing traffic against NN rules or something. Try with a VPN and if the problem is fixed its your ISPs fault.

Yup, being persistent is the only thing that worked for me, coupled with threats of cancelation because obviously they are not providing services described in agreement.

You could also try the Breitbandtest of the Bundesnetzagentur for a neutral report and confront Kabel Deutschland (welp ... there's the problem right there) and ask KD/Vodafone to check your lines.

KD support is bad/clueless, though. My father switch routers (the old one died) and had an KD engineer on-site ... who totally fucked up everything. I had to fix the mess later on.

Hmm yeah, thanks. The neutral report interestingly yields almost 4x the downspeed as Vodafones' speed test. So maybe i AM getting throttled, and the VPN suggestion is worth a try.

Turns out it only dips between 18 and 23:00 tho, i.e. when i want it to run smoothly. So definitely not a problem on my end, although maybe in my building unit. My best guess is that after a recent outage they simply didnt install enough capacity.

The first ticket already died in limbo. Ill try calling and get them to escalate, but switching is also an option.

That suggest you're facing the typical problems of ADSL: too many users connected to the same line at the lines distribution point (Verteiler). When we had to deal with this issue in the office, we requested Vodafone (yepp, our ISP also) to put our line on a different port, which helped sometimes.

Also: through which connection did ou do your inital test? Cable or WiFi? If the latter, it might also be worth to check out a less crowded channel for your WiFi. This issues in the evening hours could also stem from everyone in your neighbourghood using the same WiFi channel.
