Don't see how this cannot be a bad thing for Blizzard. SJW'ing is big in these troubled times.
Judging from the "I quit"-comments here, it has the potential for a Monoclegate.

And we in the west still underestimate the population size of China, e.g. (because the NBA also seems to be heavily invested in the China market) in China there are more active basketball players than the U.S. has inhabitants:

BTW, this is also an argument for the CMV: The only reason you hate EPIC Store is you are lazy thread: Tencent owns 48.4 percent share in Epic. For comparison, Tencent "only" owns 5 percent of Activision Blizzard, which seems to be enough to force the Chinese will onto them. So expecting actual competition from Epic is like expecting climate change properly dealt with. Won't happen in our life time.

5 Percent of 1.3 billion is 65 million

not that its super relevant but like, even having a tiny fraction of market share in china is more profitable than dominating the whole usa

"our" corporations will betray us to the chinese for a few silver coins, the modern day Judas

    Nixon fucked us all

I have a few hundred quid in hearthstone and normally spend ~50+ on a new expansion... I deleted my battle.net account permenantly yesterday. It was a good excuse to stop me playing a boring game and supporting a shitty company, tbh. From the reddit reaction... it should be a significant enough effect to seriously impact Blizzard's numbers tho

Nah that was fine. It's okay to make peace and normalize relations with your enemies. The next 40 years though...

That was the true brain worms

The Mobile gaming market in China is bigger than the whole western traditional PC/console market I'd imagine.

They made the right choice for the shareholders, I cant fault them from that point of view.

    Quick google for reference:
    https://www.gamerefinery.com/need-kn...-games-market/
    https://kr-asia.com/chinas-mobile-ga...evenue-by-2020

What we dont all realise is that Eastern places, china, Japan, they dont have consoles and PCs, they have phones. Thats why gaming Cafes are so strong there relative to a home experience, which is most likely possible due to population density making such locations viable.
Anyway, one thing you will see is that at every opportunity, Eastern (lets say chinese for simplicity) people are always on a game on their phones. Pokemon Go is still absolutely huge in these locations.

The fact that Activision Blizzard give no fucks about traditional Western style games is neither here nor there in this case, its following the best interests of the company and shareholders. Welcome to China money bitch, get in the party line or get the chop.
It will all blow over in a week. Western Filthy Casuals wont even be aware, and those that are dont care, they are filthy casuals who preorder and/or wankoff to WoWporn or cant admit they are subhumanincels that pledged themselves to the falsegod of blizzard fanaticdom.

I've lost basically all interest in video games now mainly due to their shitty industry practices.

Well I'm sure a decent amount of people in the US care, but the 5-10% drop in sales will be peanuts compared to keeping Chinese consumers happy.

I'm just glad I don't have to care that much because I play niche bullshit these days. I was thinking of getting that Call of Duty game, but maybe not now

Reminder thst blizz barely makes any of its money in Asia according to investor reports (12% of total for whole region) and has been stagnating / dropping badly in the west.

Arguments could be made either way but good optics this is not.

They have been steadily fucking up with their western audience and are hoping to recoup it later in China I guess. Part of me is just wondering why couldn't they instead, you know, not fuck up with their care audience. But growth must be achieved innit.

Funnily this all could have been solved much more subtly without it blowing up. As saif above, he'd have been penalized for this in most tournaments tbh. But they went down disproportionately hard on the whole thing.

I play more sport than I follow. I only really follow cricket, and that's mostly because complaining about the ECB is about as addicting as loot crates.

South Park already had an episode on this sort of topic a week ago, so who knows if they might pick up on this and keep it in the public consciousness longer than it otherwise would be.

What's happened to their share price? Will the SEC see defending China as securities fraud?

I don't see much actually happening.

However, blizzcon should hopefully be hilarious.

there's now a movement to turn Mei (overwatch) into a symbol of the fight for democracy in hong kong. I want this to succeed so much. Mostly out of pure schadenfreude seeing as I don't really have a dog in the race other than supporting Hong Kong's populace in their wish not to be brutalized.
