I think Root is actually getting loads better now he isn't in a team fully inherited from Cook and has some young blood in there. Vaughan was an exceptional captain with regards to setting fields and managing bowlers, Root will get there I'm sure.

You gotta feel for Bess and Archer, but if the openers can do the cricket then we should be in a very good position this time tomorrow.
Though SA always seem to come out strong after lunch.

I am completely confused by the England team in this ODI. I understand resting players but surely you include at least one real strike bowler who can do a bit of magic when needed.

Know for severe hail and lightning storms, actually, especially in the centurion area. (I assume it’s there)

Woakes is a quality strike bowler. The batting line up wasn't bad it just didn't quite fire but the bowling was definitely a bit meh.

Woakes offers control, I don't think Morgan uses him like he would Plunkett or Stokes to break a partnership at crucial moments.

Why play a specialist death seamer and then bowl Chris Jordan and keep him on for 4 poor overs?

That whole ODI was an exercise in being as British as possible.

"No Sir, after you, have a few more runs."
"No Sir, after you, take a few wickets."

It sounds like England are thinking ahead in terms of managing the workloads of fast bowlers. Talk of alternating Archer and Wood sounds sensible considering their injury histories.

T20 does have it's place, but down the end of a text feed isn't one of them. my poor heart!

I'm not a huge fan of t20 internationals really. I like it as a franchise competition to watch in the evening but it lacks impact as an international sporting event.

Where this series ahs been brilliant is T20's are often quite predictable. If one team gets 180 and a few early wickets, it cascades into a relatively dull unasilable run chase, or vice versa chasing 170, 60 on the board after 4 overs, it's jus "watch the six", wheras Tests, and even comparibly one-days have enough time to swing back and forth a bit.

These 3 games ahve gone down to the wire in 2 occasions, and been a showcase of low altitude 'Cricket' in the third. Bravo!

The only terrible thing about this whole SA tour is the lack of TMS. like srs. wtf.
