    Nice kick, Ray Finkle.
Two missed PAT kicks before the second half. Eagles won’t cover the spread this night if they’re not ahead by more than two TDs before halftime.

I love living in Philly, not only are people running around in green everywhere but the sight of grown men having to put grease all over poles is hilarious. I am hoping for a win so that I may return to Center City without radiation gear, the 1st half has people all in with hope.

    Two separate things:

    1) My local GFL (German Football League) team, Samsung Frankfurt Universe, has declared insolvency in April, my season ticket is null and void. From what I've gathered, there has been a lot of mismanagement going on over the last couple of years. Basically a club started by (business) amateurs and AF fans, which turned into a business over the years, forgot to hire proper business people to run their business and managed to amass a hell of a debt.

    2) I'm still trying to expand my AF knowledge, now getting deeper into the statistics part. I'm confident with most of the abbreviations by now, but I'm unsure how to interpret a few stats. I'm currently wondering about the following: given a defensive's player stats:
    - 12 TKL
    - 3 TFL

Do the 12 tackles include or exclude those tackles for loss?

I asked a friend of mine this earlier in the year, he seemed to know what he was talking about when he told me:

Tackles for loss are an offical stat used by the NFL, tackles aren't official but are still recorded.

As far as I know the tackles for loss shouldn't be included in the tackles stat. Tackle stats are really unreliable though and I don't think many people pay much attention to them or expect them to be accurate.

    Hmm, interesting.

I saw the TKL stat thrown all over the place during the draft. Trying to verify that (="not an offical stat"), I came across this on profootballfocus.com, stating:
After we looked at five different statistics to judge offensive players, it’s time to turn the ball over to the defense and focus on the most common defensive statistic: Tackles. From 1994 to 2001 the statistic was consistently kept, but it wasn’t until 2001 that it became official.
But it also mentions this stats' unrealibility (as does e.g. si.com lament about here).

I guess you need to take it for what it is and how it's achieved/counted. Like the passing yards for QBs, when they throw to someone for 3 yrds and that guy then proceeds to run down the whole field. Or INTs counted towards the QB although the WR dropped it (Hi Dez!).

Thoughts on this roughing the passer rule?

How long until O lines will let a second string QB get sacked to draw a personal foul when under the cosh?

That long esxisting rule, called sensitive like they did the last decade, makes sense. There's sacking the QB and then there's piledriving him into the ground. The later isn't necessary.

But how the NFL started to want it have emphazied this year and how certain ref teams are calling it, is quite hilarious. E.g. the call against T.J. Watt vs. Matt Ryan yesterday was one of the most laughable ones. Watt barely touches Ryan's legs and gets flagged.

I get it: to the layman, offensive-driven, high scoring games are gudd. So any injured starting QB is a loss in sales, so protecting them is a top priority. And yes - I also do enjoy e.g. the Packers way more with Rodgers than with Huntley/Kizer. But too much is too much. Making the QB a de facto "untouchable player" ... that's a totally new game then. Part of the joy of watching AF is the physicality.

It's not actually the same rule, they changed an "and" to "or". Which ofc has fairly drastic ramifications.

Also on the it sucks train, just like the last two weeks of Browns refs. But we're like a good team now!

According to this, no, they didn't.

I actually sympathize with the Brows this time around. I am nowhere near an expert, but of the 4 draft QBs, Mayfield was my personal #1. So seeing him perform well (and obviously him and Landry giving the whole team a confidence boost) and how he performs well, feels good. It looks like Cleveland will get their act together finally. I mean, they could be 5-0 / 4-1 for real.

We are still in pre-season right? Without watching anything thats been happening in the off season and not having a clue as to what happened in the draft, am I still correct in my assumption that the seahawks are fucked this year?

Much to anyone's surprise, this very sunday the Seahawks were the team closest to beating the (now) 5-0 Rams of any team the Rams faced so far.

Still, their record is 2-3, so making it to the playoffs in the NFC isn't very likely as of now. But I'd say they did better than everybody expected now that the Legion of Boom is dead and gone, there's still no O-line to speak of to help Wilson do his magic, and Jimmy Graham became a cheesehead.
