I suppose it's good to be reminded that the existence of the "Choose your own facts" demographic isn't new.
Yup, and that narrative is louder than any one. I don't like the solutions that include sorting people out into groups or demographics. Hell, even here it is mostly folks from a spaceship game and that's why I support this place, sort of. And I hate it. Hypocritical as shit.

I'll smash my head against a desk until I die at this point.

I pitched the idea of Powell replacing Trump or Bush. Hell, North is still waltzing around? I almost got tossed out of the house when I framed it as his "revenge tour"

Has Biden been starting anymore fights with voters?
Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves for slaughter.

Pretty sure the election results won't matter if he's acquitted this week. We're in "why didn't the Germans stop Hitler" territory.

The only thing that surprised me in all this is how concerted and enduring this effort from Trump was and how well the case was presented by the democrats. That republicans wouldn't care about it was a given.

Yes say 'wasted' but if it stops poor Americans from getting healthcare then it's money well spent.

It's hard to set up a new aristocracy if the proles aren't sufficiently frightened and weakened.

Trump made a emergency thingie that moved money from the military budget to the wall, no?

Did that need Congress vote or was it an abuse of the presidential powers? Because of it is the latter, a democrat could do the same to finance health, workers rights, minority rights... Well, in theory.

A bit of both. Some of the funds he’s allocated have been at the discretion of the executive, some mandated by Congress and outside executive discretion.

"Wait, no, I didn't actually mean it!"

Why would a legislator file a bill to do something he doesn’t want done?

Del. Wendell Walker, R-Lynchburg, introduced a bill at the start of the General Assembly session calling for the removal of the statue of former governor and U.S. Sen. Harry F. Byrd from Capitol Square.

“The reason I put that in was more of a political reason,” Walker said.

Gov. Ralph Northam made remarks about his support for allowing local governments to remove Confederate monuments as well as creating a commission to recommend a replacement of the statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee that Virginia contributed to the U.S. Capitol grounds.

With all of the talk about taking down statues, Walker decided to file his bill about Byrd. He acknowledged it was more tit-for-tat rather than about a statue memorializing Byrd, who is well-known for his painful role in Virginia’s history.

Byrd is considered the architect of Massive Resistance, a set of policies that aggressively pushed back against racial integration of public schools following the landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Brown v. Board of Education.

“If we’re going to do this, then I’m going to request to remove the Harry Byrd statue,” Walker said. “He was a Democrat and advocated for Massive Resistance.”

Quite a few Democrats said they looked forward to voting for Walker’s bill.

“I’d love to vote for the bill,” said Del. Mark Sickles, D-Fairfax.

Walker didn’t want the Byrd statue taken down, so he requested it no longer be considered by the legislature.

“I think history is very important, whether it’s good, bad or ugly,” Walker said. “I was not willing to allow the governor to have the opportunity to remove statues.”

On Friday, the Democrat- controlled House Rules Committee rejected his request and asked he come before the committee at a later date to explain why he wanted to scrap his bill.

“I thought he was serious and had a reason for taking the statue down, and so he put in a bill in good faith,” said House Majority Leader Charniele Herring, D-Alexandria, who asked Walker come and speak to his request.

Herring, who is black, also said she looked forward to voting for the bill.

“I walk by the statue of him and think, ‘This is ridiculous,’ ” she said.

After making the decision on Walker’s bill, the committee turned to advancing a batch of bills dealing with repealing discriminatory language and segregation policies from the Virginia code.

Yeah but some trolls on Twitter were mean to female candidates so hes unfit to be the nominee

Also that kind of forward thinking viewpoint has no place in the US government and tbh is anti American!!!

I remember a time when Wag the Dog was seen as a comedy.
It was never just a comedy. It was made directly thinking about Clinton and his occasional bombing of Iraq and Yugoslavia.

We’ve gotten to this point, and no one has even voted yet:

    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...alists-comment

According to the Billings Gazette, in responding to a speech in Helena on Friday by former US interior secretary Ryan Zinke, Billings state representative Rodney Garcia said “he was concerned about socialists ‘entering our government’ and socialists ‘everywhere’ in Billings, before saying the constitution says to either shoot socialists or put them in jail.

So actually in the constitution of the United States [if] they are found guilty of being a socialist member you either go to prison or are shot,” he said.

The Gazette said Garcia, who said socialism was “very dangerous” for Montana, could not say where the constitution says socialists should be shot or jailed, but repeated that he thought it should happen.

“They’re enemies of the free state,” Garcia said. “What do we do with our enemies in war? In Vietnam, (Afghanistan), all those. What did we do?”
