Yeah - think 60s-70s when the country wasn't in a huge war, coming out of one (that's the entire first 40 years) or being let down the drain by corrupted government (the last 10).

Imperial russia also had it's highs but all the downs were caused by said corrupt aristocracy rather than external factors.

Yes, right, Brezhnev's Soviet Union. That peaceful period where the Soviet Union invaded Hungary (1956) and then Czechoslovakia (1968), and then geared up to invade Afghanistan under the same eponymous doctrine.

Can we all just agree that the Soviet Union was as unequal (and more repressive) than Imperial Russia, only with a different corrupt aristocracy and better songs about it (marginally)?

You know, in the same way that current Russia is as unequal (and marginally less repressive) than both were, only with a different corrupt aristocracy (and far shittier songs about it).

    Re: Holodomor

Guess those farmers should have been more assertive towards Stalin, ignore being called kulaks (and sometimes executed together with families) and stop exporting so much towards Moscow, right? Stupid ukrainians. Although one could argue if they actually did and something familiar to what happened after Comecon disbanded but by magnitudes greater hit Stalin's Russia, it would be in a much better place nowadays. Eh, one can dream.

What's the problem with high taxes?

One way to examine the issue is to compare state help provided by the British government to one which traditionally charges much higher taxes: Sweden. Swedes support the second-highest tax burden in the world - after Denmark's - with an average of 48.2 per cent of GDP going to taxes. Yet Sweden, along with equally high-taxing Denmark and Norway, tops almost every international barometer of successful societies.

    [...]

And Swedes are well provided for. Year after year Save the Children puts it at the top its league of countries where it is best to be a mother; the country is sixth on the UN Development Programme's human development index (the UK is 16th); and Unicef ranks it second in its table of child wellbeing in rich countries. Maybe Sweden proves that it's worth paying high taxes.

If you're American its probably quite annoying when they get used to fund trillions of dollars worth of war
Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves for slaughter.

Socialist, single payer military. Positively un-American. All this one size fits all military. Why should we all have to pay for the expensive, "bomb brown people" military. Most of us don't want that kind of military, and it's too expensive, why not let us have a basic, defensive military and then those that want to can pay extra for the their adventurous one.

Yeah, but those are your federal taxes, and leaving California isn't gonna do shit about that.

I was going to respond "that depends how far you go" and then I remembered the insanity with Federal income taxes following their citizens around the world

What's FHC's view on Tulsi Gabbard... she seems pretty moderate.

She goes on Fox News and she's basically persona non grata within the party.

Then again none of that would be possible without the Dem party being extremely stupid as usual. Hillary and other Dems have decided to pick a fight with her by idiotically suggesting that she's a Russian agent.

    Expand on this...
Trump has successfully capitalized on the anti intervention narrative with his base while the Democrats are staunchly pro-war Hawks.

Gabbards anti-interventionism pretty much makes her unelectable to the virtue signaling, bloodstained hypocrites running the DNC.

She's Hindu so she stands no chance of ever being elected.

Trying to break down partisan boundaries... good heavens!

Is there any evidence to back up Hillary's claims that she's a russian agent or is she still salty about the 2016 DNC controversy?
