not happening, we do not have the technology and the US power-grid is not in a state to support this, it's taken almost 20 years to get our grid in a state to support such porportionally massive generation fluctuations.

i'd definitely vote for him after Trump annexes Denmark to get this Greenland real-estate deal tho.
Uhh, we have the technology to power the nation without carbon. Use uranium instead.
    nuclear is not renewable tho.
And? depending on the reactor and extraction process there is a shitton of uranium to be had. personally i would prefer that than melting every july.
lol try anything besides the northernmost parts of America

Just ball-soup from May to Aug thanks to the humidity and the concrete jungle effect

Hopefully shorts and linen shirts take off instead of people sweating their asses off in business casual
july and avgust are retarded here. i've fucked off to the mountains last week and i think ill be repeating this now every year. 5°C in the morning and 22 during the day. awwww yeaaaah.
    u wot.

I've given it a read. Sounds like it's going to cost me, personally, alot of money.
What makes you say that? Can you share some specifics?

Quite frankly, this is simply not true. The US grid is advanced enough that Enron could artificially manipulate power availability to functionally manipulate prices.

Our local bay area windfarm is bigger (~570Mw) than your biggest offshore one (407Mw).

I posted this several pages ago but no one thought it merited discussion. Same with the one about indefinite detention.

I'm just making an observation, and will remind you that many folks do vote "selfish", i.e. for their own interests.

Kids reportedly dying of flu is bad, no matter how many or if other factors or illnesses might have been involved.

Should the Feds force kids in their custody to be vaccinated? Maybe.

Kids being molested while in custody, definitely beyond bad. Should be investigated and prosecuted to the maximum extent of the law.

Is there something we need to debate, as in would disagree over?

    Neither are hydrogen-fueled stars.

A power source that lasts long enough for us to develop interstellar travel is good enough.

    1) That’s what breeder reactors are for.

    2) Even if we didn’t use breeder reactors, the timescale for running out of fission fuel is long enough that by the time peak uranium is a concern, we’ve got the pure renewables (or god forbid a working fusion reactor).

It’s just not a compelling argument against nuclear power.
Better to say that nuclear is a better long-term option than anything else. It's not purely renewable and on a cosmic scale nothing is as far as we can tell. Existentialist horrors aside nuclear will be our next big "non-renewable" power source test, but it will have to be rolled out slowly purely because people are dumb and are scared of nuclear or engineers will have to train the technicians to run them. As far as I know we haven't even rolled out a G4 reactor and won't have one for another decade. I don't see 100% global renewable happening then. Earth isn't doomed, but bad things are gonna happen until we fix it and who knows how long until things revert to "normal."

Torres’ ordeal began in August 2018, when he was pulled over and arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Torres, a naturalized U.S. citizen since 2009, was carrying multiple forms of identification, including his driver’s license and other security credentials. Torres was booked at the Ascension Parish Jail, and the next day the Parish Court ordered his release.

But Torres wasn’t released. Instead, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office placed an “immigration hold” on Torres on the suspicion that he was unlawfully present in the United States.

The basis for this suspicion? He had a Latinx name and brown skin. Staff at the sheriff’s office explained that they had a policy of detaining all Latinx people for immigration review.

I'm sure Alistair will assure us that as long as you comply and follow the law all will be good and they just had all the reasons to be suspicious.

After all, he got released in the end, right? See, system works, all is good!

This is more common than you'd think too. I've had friends and friends of friends picked up by ICE despite being citizens and we had to go get them released. Local and state law enforcement don't usually like the feds busting heads on their watch, but your results may vary.

After all, he got released in the end, right? See, system works, all is good!
I mean, yes but not the yes I hope for.

Top Secret, pretty funny too. I liked Real Genius because he took the spotlight despite not being the main character. Val Kilmer is a national treasure.
