Well then, maybe CityRail isn't quite the grossly incompetent clusterfuck I sometimes think it is - by comparison.
In fairness it is the oldest underground train network in the world and this makes it difficult to update to suit modern needs.

What's far more ridiculous in the UK is that you cannot go and buy alcohol in a 24-hour supermarket after 11pm.

Are you certain? I'm 60% sure that I've bought alcohol after 11pm at a 24 hour Tesco in Swansea. If not then I'm forgetting a lot more of that period of my life than I should be.

Afaik it depends on the shop, but round where I lived none of the shops sold alcohol after 11pm. I've also been in loads of 24h shops in the West End and found the same problem. It's technically legal but mosty just stick the old rules for some unknown reason.

IIRC they have to apply for an extension to their license to sell after eleven, same as for pubs. Nearly all don't bother because they wouldn't make enough to offset the extra costs and hassle.

Used to live "just outside" London (High Wycombe), and we had a couple of close calls with regard to getting on the train after seeing a show.

Unions would be up in arms about a general reduction to the maintenance hours, so it would be very expensive and is probably not worth the cost. I am suprised that they aren't doing it for the opening ceremony night though.

not sure about licensing laws elsewhere in the UK but for supermarkets/shops in Scotland they have changed the permited selling hours fairly recently last year or the year before now they can only sell alcohol between 10am and 10pm Monday to Sunday

The North Korean women's football team have walked off the pitch at Hampden Park in Glasgow after their images were shown on a screen beside a South Korean flag.

I didn't even realise N. Korea had an Olympics team, let alone Women's football.

Will probably be the same for most Olympics held in the West in then near future.

I'm surprised NK even allow a women's football team

9 day old rumour that's been thoroughly debunked. the instructions are in place to prevent paddy power-esque "ambush" marketing, like pepsi or burger king handing out thousands of free samples right outside the gates for people to take in, not to force the average person to wear the correct brand of trainers or to eat the correct brand of food.

    Really?

Pepsi and Burger King wouldn't have to do that, they will get a boost over their competitors simply by not being involved in this clusterfuck of an Olympics.
