It's been a long time since I have been *remotely* proud at being spawned on these islands stuck out on the north western coast of Europe.

Fuck me. Those opening ceremonies forced me to reconsider that shit.

    GG UK.

"Mark Cavendish blamed the negative tactics of other teams, including Australia, for his Olympic men's road race disappointment."

Makes a change from blaming his own team, which is what he did at the last Olympics iirc?

Best thing about the Olympics, watching stuff you'd never normally watch.

It was his team's fault last time to be fair. Cav, as the sprinter, has one job. Stay on the back wheel of his team's line and until the last 2-300 metres, whereupon he is to unleash the monster and show everyone why he is world champion. Considering the strength of Team Sky Team GB's cyclists If he's not in a position to sprint for the win in the finishing straight, either the team's strategy was poor or the team incorrectly executed the strategy.

Last time, they ballsed it up, this time, it was an overly optimistic strategy. If either the australians or the germans had played ball and taken their turn driving the peloton to bridge the breakaway groups, all three teams would've been in a good position for a sprint finish. As it was, neither nation tried to help (the aussies for some reason actually did the opposite and pushed attack after attack, to their own detriment, which is what cav is complaining about), so no one in the peloton was in a position to win. They probably should've pushed on their own and tried to stay on top of the breakaway groups. It would've knacked wiggins, but he's got until wednesday to recover for the time trial, and frankly cav deserves the medal.

tbh olympic cycling really needs team radios and constant time splits. it's fucking insane they don't have them. makes it such a lower quality race than you get on the rest of the professional circuit.

Wait do Brits think that was a good opening ceremony? Because everyone I've talked to thought it was shit. (I thought it was shit too). basically seemed like one big "jerking ourselves off to our own in jokes"... thing.

I mean fucking celebrating your healthcare system in the olympics? what the fuck? and I must have missed the memo that said british culture started in 1900. (though I guess a montage of one individual texting another in broken english is pretty representative of today's "culture")

anyways the weightlifting has been good, north korea has already broken Halil Mutlu's olympic record and julia rohde is waifu material

Exciting finish to the girls road race. Was hoping the Russian would beat the two big names somehow but that was never really going to happen. Goddamn do the English commentators love the brit that got silver. Who cares about that dutch girl, she only got gold.

They might as well have been riding in a pool though with all that water.

Looking forward to the velodrome stuff though, love the tactics of that.

Your not the only one who thought it was shit, rumour is that several Tories had to throw a bit of a wobbler at Danny Boyle just to get him to put a three second clip mentioning Churchill into one of the scenes, otherwise the whole thing would have been even more left wing biased than it already was...

When I first saw it from a greater distance I thought it was a rollercoaster which would have been much better than some "art".

I find it hilarious how determined some people are to turn the opening ceremony into a political argument.

The tower looks much, much nicer closer up. It looks like a mess of red, structural steel girders from a distance but once you get closer you realise all the steel is subtly curved.

How could they not have noticed she wasn't supposed to be there. It's not as if she blends in with that outfit.

Bah this is retarded, i want to see the opening ceremony but apparently youtube and every other major site is blocking it because whomever own the rights to it wants to rape everyone for more money in a few months.

    Fuck the Olympics.
