CSM - Following up with CCP on webteam uselessness?

What discussions have the CSM had with CCP regarding the apparent incompetence of the webteam?

From Evegate, to the new forum debacle, and now the "Eve is real" shambles with the most obvious exploits in history, it continues to appear as if CCP sent a mission to Madagascar, captured some small primates, shaved them down and employed them to create web content.

Has the CSM offered to shit in a box, leave in the sun for several days, and provide the larvae that results as a replacement web development team?

We don't get the power to hire and fire folks at CCP. We certainly mention to them how shitty some of the web stuff is, and certainly will bring up the eveisreal security holes at the next summit.

this reaches beyond the scope of the eveisreal debacle. The "new forums" botch job that was allowed to make it to the front end shouldnt be forgotten when going to CCP with your concerns.

This is a huge deal and should not just be swept away.

EvE's web presence connects it to potential players. Any player looking to play eve will come to EvE web sites.
EvE does have amazing art and video's that will get people excited to play or return to EvE.
But the presentation is terrible, video's not able to be made full screen from main page, inability to blow up screen shots. Lack of written content(stories and battle reports need a larger presence) are some major hurdles.

Why would I use this site rather than youtube? It fails at effectively providing media to prove how amazing EvE is.

This in addition to terrible forums. People from other MMO's will browse a potnetial games forum to see how it is. EvE forums are terrible and are not well layed out at all.

EvE's web presence is terrible, it needs to be changed.

I don't think you'll find any CSMs disagreeing with you. The question is how to influence CCP.

How about boycotting the meetings? CCP don't care about the CSM anyway and the CSM are achieving absolutely nothing other than being the propaganda front men for CCP.

Ask them for the bazillionth time why the website goes down when the server goes down. Put it on a different fucking server idiots, you must have a spare one lying around by now.

I don't think there's enough space in the garage for two servers. Besides, two big red buttons will confuse the shit out of Tuxford.

The question is also what do we want them to work on. Not everyone in that team is useless or incompetent. Of that I can assure you. It's true that the results of the whole are generally subpar, but there's good people with talent in there.

And it's not like web people can be transferred to programming or game design.

I believe there's some improvements coming our way, both on eve-gate and to the main eve site.

The reason the site goes down sometimes when the server goes down is because if they're touching the outward facing server infrastructure, there's no way for your requests to reach the (working) web servers. Also the servers, for certain services, reach for databases that may have to be taken offline for a reason or other.

I thought it was cos they still hosted the website on the game servers cos they are fucking lazy. Doesn't the website still go down every daily downtime?

God knows the last time I was on the EVE Forums during downtime, but I'm pretty sure this has never been the case.

The website occasionally goes down on patch day because it accesses some of the same services as Tranquility but it is definitely NOT "hosted on the game servers".

Seriously, hosted on the game severs?...

Damn, I thought everyone knew that the forums use the same database server as the game, but the webservers are on separate machines.

Doesn't everyone believe that all the major MMO companies operate everything off a couple of little servers sitting in a closet somewhere? Since Eve is single shard, they figure it can probably all operate off a single little server tucked away behind someone's desk... so having it handle the web stuff can't be that hard, or something?

TBH what is likely happening is that during downtime the SQL servers are taken offline for backups and/or maintenance and they hold your login details.. Rather than code the web pages to handle the fact that some people will be trying to log in and the web server cant look up those details (probably waiting for timeouts which would increase load) its easier to just shut them down for the 5 mins it takes to bring the SQL servers back up..

The 'fix' for this is the web servers caching everyone's login details so they don't need to check the game SQL servers every time someone logs in (They already cache a little, but I mean a full cache of everyone's login details, not just the people that are already logged in). The downside to this is that the web servers will lag when passwords are changed (and the fix for this is to cache more often, which will significantly increase load on the SQL servers) AND the web team will have a copy of everyone's login details on their servers... I for one do not trust this team with a copy of anything...

So for the security of my accounts (which are no longer active) please leave it the fuck alone!

I'm like 95% sure the website used to go down during downtime.
