    Kerbal Space Program - Build Heaps Of Fail and Launch Them Into Space

    This an early version of an indie game available from http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/ - which right now appears to be a little bit overloaded.

    It's a physics sandbox that revolves around building rockets and flying them into space, except that in the effort to get higher and faster you'll end up making them explode because you spent all your time on rockets and not enough time on the structure, or they'll be unstable and fly into the ground, or perhaps you get them airborne and fail to land because you skimped on the parachute budget. And then there's always the possibility a 'Space Oddity' type situation where you get your crew of fearless kosmonauts into space, but lack any ability to get them home.

    It's currently free and there are a bunch of fan mods adding extra parts to increase the potential for mishap. I'm guessing at some point we'll see actual objectives or something added, but as it stands right now it's just fun for toying with and explodifying things.

    I've made him freak out - see the Escape tower video, he's cool right up until the upper stage detaches due to stress and we're forced to hit the punch out button. It takes a lot to phase him, he's usually smiling right up to the moment he capsule explodes.

    Just tried this for the first time couple of days ago. Pretty fun, neat if they had more parts, but the fun really only lasted an hour, if that.

    If you want more parts it worth signing up for their forums there's about 50 other bits and pieces from other players, but indeed right now there's no 'goals' other than that which you set for yourself, so I can see why some people might get bored quickly.

    it needs goals, it needs a "budget" system (yes it already has costs for modules, but theres no limitations or branches of areas to put your funds) , it needs unlockable modules, a research system, programmable flight plans to the moon and other planets.

    then it would be awesome.

    all that mine seem to do is take off, get into a uncorrectable oscillation and then slam into the ground killing the little fuckers

    * Manage your Space Program. Hire astronauts, train them, research and improve parts.
    * Fly out to Moons and other Planets
    * Build Space Stations, and surface bases on other worlds.
    * And a whole lot more!

    there, a good launch and the green men are on their way into the deep dark of space...

    just passed the 500km mark and it aint slowing down any time soon, fuck going for a orbit of the planet when you can go for the moon! (though at their current velocity they may well splatter all over it, unless they miss)

    How is your speed? Im at 700k+, but deaccelerating, so suspect they'll eventually fall back to earth and go spalt. made sure its not an orbit by going straight up.

    made it into space, 460k up but losing speed. not sure how the fuck youre meant to get into an orbit as the controls just make it spaz out as soon as you turn auto stabilise off

    Anyone have a link to a additional parts compilation?

    I think I managed to get to orbit with 2 stage plus 2 SRB booster stages on first stage design. But almost run out of fuel to do proper circularization and other fancy stuff so I decelerated back and either something bugged or I opened parachute too late, all KIA on water landing at 10m/s

    stop building unstable rockets. Unstable early stages is just fine, since you can keep it in check with SAS, but for the end stage(s) where you need a controlled orbit, a stable rockt is a definite plus.
