Be gay, do crime. Kill the rich.
Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves for slaughter.

Brexit is the result of a fetishism for a past which never existed exploited by disaster capitalists looking to strip the assets of the nation for as cheaply as possible.

This can be true at the same time as the EU being far from a perfect entity.

Besides all the economical and international issues a brexit will surely create, I'd be interested to hear my fellow U.K. FHC brethren opinions on how this will impact the British society in the future. Will this create a similar unbridgeable gap between the opposing sides as we witnessed it in the U.S. (although ofc due to completely different causes)? Which would IMHO be worse than the direct outcome of brexit itself.

That unbridgeable gap has existed for quite a while now

Xeno is quite right here. The divide is massive and has been for a long time. Brexit may well exacerbate it but it's more of an outcome than a cause.

I'm not sure how much Brexit has created an unbridgeable gap as much as simply revealed it by exposing quite how divided we are as a nation.

The wealth gap will become more pronounced, although how much Brexit will add to that is pure speculation. We're already in a position where home ownership among older demographics is going to exacerbate existing economic inequality as soon as they start dying off and their kids get their hands on everything via inheritance. Housing and land is definitely the main driver of economic inequality between the bottom 90% of the population. Brexit may cause a housing crash according to some commentators but I haven't seen a particularly convincing scenario or chain of events which would precipitate it personally.

Anybody paying attention has been pretty aware of how low our press is willing to go in order to push their agenda, Brexit has condensed what would be a decade's worth of press scandal into 2 years though.

The BBC has revealed the inherent problems you get when the board of a national broadcasting body is a bunch of old white men from upper middle class backgrounds. You wouldn't want a weather forecast which had a weather presenter sticking his hand out the window and feeling rain to then have to argue with someone in a room with no windows claiming it is sunny, and yet this is the case with the BBC's reporting on some major issues.

We've grossly underinvested in infrastructure for absolutely ages, this causes a pretty big gap between north and south. I doubt Brexit has much impact on that though.

Brexit is a symptom of an unbridgeable gap in the UK.

just imagine if Milliband had won that election...

Interesting. And also frightening that you all seem to agree that there has been this gap for some time and brexit "just" clearly and openly revealed it. That is something I wasn't aware of. At least I can't remember having heard/read/seen any reports mentioning it prior to brexit. And I do tend to follow news in general.

Thanks for pointing that out to me.

I know this is not the USA thread, but a recent NPR podcast has quite a good arguments that attempt the explain the divide. The second part of the podcast is very US-specific and race-focused, but the first 20 minutes seem pretty applicable to Europe too: https://www.npr.org/2018/10/15/65754...-working-class
