Depends, does Sheila create the guidelines for not going to the shop for fags and wine, and are you telling people to follow Sheila's guidelines on this?

So the blog that Cummings wrote "warning about coronaviruses over a year ago" is actually a blog he wrote over a year ago about biosecurity at testing labs that he edited on the 14th April this year - the day he returned from Durham - to include seemingly prescient forecasting of an impending pandemic coronavirus

The best way to become a super forecaster is to make all your 'forecasts' with the benefit of hindsight.
Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves for slaughter.

How on earth can people get into high positions while being this dumb and not understanding how the old version of the text is easily accessible to everyone? JFC...

You're forgetting that 95% of people will never learn about the edit and will go away from this thinking what a prescient genius he is.

Why is it always bizarre shit like this which sinks the tories and never their destructive policies and complete inability to materially benefit the majority of the country?

This would have been so much better handled as
    - Yes, what Cummings was doing was not right and has to pay the hefty fine
(later he gets a similar bonus, just to smooth things over)

    - New message: 'No body is above the law!'
(BoJo does have this stigma sticking to him since last year.)

    - We all have to do what it takes to fight the virus and you are not an exception
(Look, how responsible they are with the Covid disaster!)

... BoJo's rating is through the roof ...
    But hey, Tory life.

The "hefty fine" is the princely sum of £60 that most police forces, including Durham, have been refusing to impose unless absolutely necessary because it is inherently unfair. That fine would be reduced to £30 if paid in 14 days.

Lockdown has essentially been an exercise of good faith by the majority of the British public. That's why Cumming's actions have had such a huge impact on the tories social capital.

The whole saga has revealed the farce of this idea of a big society which has been cynically rammed down our throats since Cameron's clammy face started showing up on our TV screens.

Isn't "testing your eyesight" in a speeding car with a child a matter for Child Protective Services?

This child should be taken away from such reckless and negligent parents...

Would it not be December '24?

With such a stonking majority is there any possibility of an earlier election?

That's seems to be an important part of the government's "response strategy".
AKA "fuck you we have a massive majority what are you going to do" ?

I can't see there being a back bench rebellion of even half the size needed to increase the possibility of an earlier election.

If he starts bungling brexit (in the minds of the back benchers) as well as fucking up the coronavirus response then there may be a split but I seriously doubt it. The tories are a successful political party because they value the continuation of the party before anything else.

Absolutely none whatsoever, FTPA hasn't been repealed yet so we'd end up in the same situation as May. If Boris becomes a political liability he'd no longer have the confidence of the house but the house would refuse to pass a motion of no confidence.

Everyone has of course agreed the FTPA was a tremendously bad idea and it should be repealed but there's a pandemic on so we haven't quite got round to it yet.

Worst case scenario is Boris is simply ousted and replaced, but even that's unlikely given how much everyone tied their personal brand to his and DC's. So they're stuck supporting Boris and his scumbag chief advisor, or they kick him out and prove themselves all idiots in the process.

If this isn't just a temporary blip - and I don't think it is - it would take some enormous efforts over the remaining four years to rebuild any kind of public confidence. Given the pair of them are accountable for what is increasingly looking like 75,000 or more British deaths, that simply should not be possible, even with the media fully bought in. And even that's not a given. The Heil have broken ranks to call for Cummings to be booted out, because they value the long term success of the Tory party over the personal victories of the current cult of alt right wingnuts who are running the show today. The Sun, not so much.

I think you're sadly overestimating how accountable the Tory's appear for anything they do in the eyes of the English electorate.
