    Personal merit or company merit?
    Either?

I'm not saying that in no case is there a match between merit/utility and access to capital. I'm just saying that there are plenty of individuals or firms with little merit that nevertheless have access to capital, and plenty of individuals and firms with significant merit that do not have access to capital.
In a vacuum, personal merit ultimately results in access to some capital, normally (let's leave out structuralism and its inherent deficiencies) , or at leas that's how it's supposed to work with a little hard work, one can have access to that; albeit not enough to leverage themselves

Unfortunately, your final point was the one i was trying to make, sorry for being verbose.

It's one of the facets of structural inequality (and even in cap markets, business sense dictates that you go no where the little guys.

So ultimately you have an entrenched system i guess.

Oh, wow, WSJ is reporting that SEC was actually going to settle with Musk, but then Musk blew up the agreement. So SEC sued him instead.

The SEC had crafted a settlement with Mr. Musk—approved by the agency’s commissioners—that it was preparing to file Thursday morning when Mr. Musk’s lawyers called to tell the SEC lawyers in San Francisco that they were no longer interested in proceeding with the agreement, according to people familiar with the matter. After the phone call, the SEC rushed to pull together the complaint that it subsequently filed, the people said.

    What a fucking idiot.

Dude thinks he can beat the SEC in court.

    Lol.

I guarantee you it was some petty ego thing where he just couldn't accept a settlement, because it'd make him look bad. Of course it wouldn't make him look bad because :America: and I'm sure his lawyers told him that it'd be NBD in the long run, but our culture is currently going through an epidemic of doubling down at all costs, sooooo. . .

Stick to cars. This is just patent nonsense.

SpaceX is run by Gwynne Shotwell, not Elon.

I mean not like they dont recover the stage when they have to move things in high orbit. Or that fuel is cheap. Or that the first stage is quite expensive. Idk

Pretty much. And his ideas for reusable rockets are not novel.

Yeah I figured as much on that front, the whole 'rocket ship that takes off and lands' idea has been around since Buck Rogers and probably before that too. Just like electric cars have been around since forever also.

Well, to be fair, most CEOs do not engage in marijuana-themed securities fraud to impress their loli girlfriends.

    Musk unfollowed Grimes again.

A keen observer on reddit pointed this out: "He only re-followed after he started following Yusaku Maezawa so that his follower list would read like this: @Grimezsz @yousuck2020."

"Grimes and I need to finish our song and make the soundtrack to this investigation," Banks said in a direct message on Twitter to Business Insider. "Music is powerful and the songs we started on were clutch."

    Settlement secured.

Tesla chief executive Elon Musk agreed on Saturday to pay a $20 million fine and step down as board chairman as part of a settlement with the Securities & Commission that he misled investors about his plans to take the company private.

SEC holding true to form, I see.

Surely losing a fraction of a percent of his net worth will dissuade him from future misbehavior.
