I think this defines the apathetic, bitter attitude of the EVE veteran. Shall the 514th Fighting Dusties declare allegiance to the TR? We can turn them into the PS2 version of Winmatar. The Terran Republic (TR)
A conservative, authoritarian, collectivist nation who strive to regain contact with the homeworld and reunite the warring factions. Their leadership is a public oligarchy known as the Overwatch, composed of various representative officials and their associated Ministries, who regulate allotted portions of society in accordance with their own expertise and the collective will towards favourable outcomes. They believe that authority is the bastion that protects humanity and that in a truly free society, with no Big Brother to guide and watch over citizens, misery and suffering would quickly be visited to all.
P. much this. Since hack times will be increased when you don't hold neighbouring hexes, most of the action will take place at the bases along the frontline, so the area where the fighting takes place will probably only 1/5 of the total area, if that.
On a side note, I wonder if they will introduce more continents so they can increase the players per server, over time.
That's how I expect it to play. If its anything like the first one, you'll go to bed some nights, after fighting a battle over Base X, only to wake up to find the battle is still raging on. I don't imagine the battles will be entirely focused on the big bases; I imagine small groups will try to assault the neighbouring hexes to make it faster to cap the control points, thus easier, hence the combat zone will extend across the boundaries.
Kinda upset at the lack of continents, since me and my outfit would often fill two Galaxy transports and move to an entirely new continent to start a new battle elsewhere. There was something nice about entering an empty continent, capping a a few points and then, 30 minutes later, finding 100 players have shown up to join the fun.
3 continents on release, but the demo client was accidently left accessible via a little light hacking of the station launcher and various people have delved into the resources and identified at least one new continent, so theres likely to be another one released fairly quickly. I'd imagine that the server clusters will have seperate machines for each continent, so the number of peak concurent players on each "server" will go up with each new continent added. At a wild uninformed guess I'd expect log in queues initially with new servers added in the first few weeks followed by mergers after a couple of new continents have been added, probably 3 months or so in.
I've also got a PC gamer key despite being a veteran, so I'm going to wait until I've got my veteran access and then either give it away or flog it for :spacecash: once I'm sure I dont need it myself.
If we're still arguing about what faction to play, I'm voting smurf.
I get the feeling that new continents are going to be a big part of the games long-term growth, i'd definitely expect to see a lot more. I doubt they'll be massively increasing the server sizes with each one, I expect they'll do something like planetside 1 where you have continent locking and some sort of overarching campaign mechanic to try and focus combat on a few continents at a time.
e: also, the president of SoE said some sort of cryptic thing on his twitter the other day about how something might be happening in regards to PS1.... figure it might be some sort of temporary f2p or something like that

Would be kind of smart way to get people back into Planetside and wanting more.
Make PS1 F2P, people return, release PS2, more people in the Planetside mood to get it.
10 conquerable continents in PS1, with an additional 3 for home bases.
I suspect that as time goes on, new continents will be "discovered" and linked to the existing ones to vary the different styles. Jungle, Desert, and Tundra being the 3 big types of terrain.
Oh also...
