Alright, so this died to a camp before I could really push the ship.
However, I did manage to kill a really well fit Cynabal (with T2 shield rigs no less).

    [Phantasm, Standard]
    Heat Sink II
    Heat Sink II
    Heat Sink II

    Experimental 10MN MicroWarpdrive
    Faint Epsilon Warp Scrambler I
    Fleeting Propulsion Inhibitor I
    Invulnerability Field II
    Large Shield Extender II
    Large Shield Extender II

Heavy Pulse Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency M
Heavy Pulse Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency M
Focused Medium Pulse Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency M
    Small Energy Neutralizer II
    Medium Nosferatu II

    Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Medium Core Defence Field Extender I
Medium Core Defence Field Extender I

    Hornet EC-300 x3
    35k eHP, 492dps w/ multi (550 w/ conflag, 392 w/ scorch), 1500m/s, 6.4s Align

I flew it with implants bumping the damage up significantly:
    532 (612) w/ Multi, 594 (683) w/ Conflag, 424 (488) w/ Scorch
If you'd prefer, run damage drones and add another 45-60 dps based on that.

This ship is a brawler, and as a result you need that medium nos.
The 2nd utility high can be whatever you like (2nd nos, small neut, small faction disco).
Unlike every other laser boat it has a reasonably high ECCM base (20), and pretty high tracking (0.14 w/ HPL).
It's fairly agile and pretty quick for a laser boat.

It's not terrible, and for solo roaming it's leagues better than the Zealot.
However, that's where the praise ends.

Although the ship is double the cost of a Navy Omen, it performs almost identically to the Navy Omen.
This would be fine if it weren't for the fact that the Phantasm should be much better a ship than it actually is.

There are two problems with the ship (imo):
    - The ship was nerfed during the Faction redesign, and lost 1000 base shields. This was a fairly sizable nerf.
    - The ship is short on grid. This is a problem with the smaller TS ships. They can't fully realize their utility slots and they can't be reasonably fit without mixing guns. Considering how lasers work, mixing guns means dropping lots of dps.

None of these things would be a problem if they were regular ships.
The issue is that because they are pirate ships, they are grouped and compared Vigilants, Gilas, & Cynabals.
Pirate ships don't tend to have fitting or tanking issues, yet the Phantasm does.

IMO, I'd like to see it's base shields restored and some more grid added.
It's damage is pretty competent since it out ranges & tracks most ships.

In short it's a little underwhelming, so buy a Navy Omen instead & save 50m.

    Agreed
flown them quite a lot when i was in the curse.
For low sec i can imagine them being better then zealot but in general still meh ship.

Ashimmu and phantasm should be buffed. Rebalance on neuts and nos it self ( neut should swap fitting requirements with nos , nos is inferior module ever since nos nerf thus it should be easier to fit ).

As much as I would love to fly this ship, I see no reason to do so unfortunately. It's always looked underwhelming, especially compared to the Gila.

The Sansha line needs a overhaul imo, right from top to bottom. They should get active tank bonuses or something niche.

The nightmare is fine and sexy.. prom just hit it on the head. The phantasm and succubus have so much in utility that can't be used due to fitting issues and the faction rebalance claimed so much EHP that they are extremely weak going in. The nightmare can still fit a full solo loadout more or less and have all the fitting it needs.

Also, just saying, if you take away the tracking bonus the sansha ships become about as useful as prom's recent zealot experience.

Yea, the tracking bonus on these ships is pretty fucking badass.
There's no need to remove it as any *damage* issues that the ship has is directly the fault of lasers.

Are there ships that do it better? Yes.

Is this more hilarious? Very yes.

    Stats -
DPS: 455 with INMF, 501 with conflag, 375 with scorch to 20k
Tank: 30k EHP with 674 HPs, 892 HPs with LG crystals, 1253 HPs with overload on invuln and booster
    Speed: 1.5k/s, 2.1k/s overheated

CPU fits EXACTLY with all level 5 skills, small neut/nos can be added with CPU implants or rig.

With Tengu boosts, the tank jumps to 1.4k innately, 2k overheated. (and LG's)

I wonder what the Nightmare can do with these new shield boosters...

I'm having a hard time coming up with a fit that i like the look of for this ship.

The closest I've come is a slower dual prop cynabal type fit, obviously with better applied damage.

      Spoiler:

    [Phantasm, :3]
    Heat Sink II
    Heat Sink II
    Damage Control II
    Tracking Enhancer II
    Tracking Enhancer II

    Experimental 10MN Microwarpdrive I
    Shadow Serpentis 10MN Afterburner
    Shadow Serpentis Warp Disruptor
Small Capacitor Booster II, Navy Cap Booster 400
    Large Shield Extender II
    Large Shield Extender II

Heavy Pulse Laser II, Scorch M
Heavy Pulse Laser II, Scorch M
Heavy Pulse Laser II, Scorch M
    Medium Unstable Power Fluctuator I

    Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer II
    Medium Energy Locus Coordinator II
    Medium Ancillary Current Router I

    Acolyte II x3

    Overheated mwd speed: 3262m/s.
    AB speed: 1410m/s
    Overheated AB speed: 1968m/s

    Any opinions/success stories?

Seems like laser tracking being the way it is you could do with a Web to counter tackle frigates and such.

Scram is better imo then a web, a ab as such doesnt offer much, a mwd frig will still underfly your tracking (probably) and most mwd ships will be able to stay atop of you ab or not. With a scram you can gtfo vs nearly any mwd ships, you can also get away from frigates with a mwd and ab frigs should catch you anyways.

Porbably would drop the second lse for one and replace the acr rig with a tanky one.

Just as you I didn't find a fit for a long while.

In the end I ended up with something similiar to you, just with web and beams.

Beams are fantastically flexible, have ok-tracking on a Phantasm and have actually higher DPS than pulses.

My fit: (for solo / small gang a web, for small fleets probably an invu):

    Code:
    [Phantasm, Beam copy 1]
    Damage Control II
    Heat Sink II
    Heat Sink II
    Heat Sink II
    Nanofiber Internal Structure II

    Experimental 10MN Microwarpdrive I
    Large Shield Extender II
    Fleeting Propulsion Inhibitor I
    Warp Disruptor II
Small Electrochemical Capacitor Booster I, Navy Cap Booster 400
    10MN Afterburner II

Heavy Beam Laser II, Imperial Navy Ultraviolet M
Heavy Beam Laser II, Imperial Navy Ultraviolet M
Heavy Beam Laser II, Imperial Navy Ultraviolet M
    Small Unstable Power Fluctuator I

    Medium Energy Locus Coordinator I
    Medium Energy Locus Coordinator II
    Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer II

    Acolyte II x3
You can swap the Nano for a TE, but it felt a bit bulky.
Stats: 2.3k MWD speed, 1.9k heated AB
    DPS: 616 (20k), 475 (36k), 287 (radio 65k), 379 (aurora 73k).

I flew it a few times now, nothing serious though.
      Spoiler:

Radio is useful for starting to shoot tackle at 70k, as it doesn't have the 0.25 tracking malus Aurora has.

Killing T1 Frigs is easy, Interceptors can get interesting, but it's doable.
It's always fun to get web+scrammd by a Dramiel 50k off his fleetmates, then heating AB and blapping him with beams.

I didn't see that as too much of an issue tbh, pulses with a tracking bonus should track fairly well, and the AB will make it very difficult for ab frigs to get under your guns. MWD frigs probably have a better chance of getting close, and staying close, but they'll have a hard time keeping that up under a med neut. I don't really like the idea of single LSE, as the tank is fairly sketchy as is. As for beams, I still haven't gotten over the onus of long range guns, may be something to look at.

Will just have to go for some old fashioned trial and error, just making sure there was no glaring strength that I was overlooking. Thanks guys!

Only way to fly phantasm is with Pulse IMO. With scorch, and a web- its a frig genocide machine. If something does get close, web + Tracking bonused multi will insta blap. 411 DPS no drones, no implants, no heat at 35K is just disgusting when you are rocking the locus fit.

I think this has some potential, you can kite regularly, 400dps at 23km, somewhat decent tank, good mwd mobility. And if you get tackled, take to much damage or in any way get into trouble you 100mn ab with heat out of there, it gets you away from brawlers, allows you to kill all frigates and is all in all a gtfo button.

That looks like an awful lot of fittings allocated to a prop-combo. The tank on this is superthin, so wouldn't be surprised if a -once webbed and trying to switch over to AB- brawler in range wouldn't just 100 to 0 you in a jiffy before you pull away at all. Praetors would just murder this until you make have made it to good speeds after 3-4 AB cycles.

It's cool for sure, but just AB or some kitier 10mn AB+mwd allowing for heavy beams just sounds a lot more reasonable.
