Stevie, with links you want 2x nano pump rigs unless you have dual injectors. Then, if you want a web you really have to worry about neuts, but a ~T2 fit gets ~2300dps tank with cheap drugs, heat.
      Spoiler:
[Astarte, Astarte fit atm? web resists]

Then again triple rep gets ~2800dps tank and still does ~700dps before implants or Void. Medium hybrid 5% is cheap if you have the slot free.

Also 2-3 times the natural buffer of the Deimos. TBH if you have both, I'd try use the HAC when you plan to position on grid, and consider an AB on the dual injected Astarte when you expect to fight on gates/stations.

P.S. Don't forget the Eos. Medium smarty, medium nos, more damage in drones & some selectable dps can go a long way. 100-200dps less ain't so much after sentries if people will actually engage it. Of course the difference is more if you have a magstab on the Astarte.

    Medium Processor Overclocking Unit I
    Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer II

    Hammerhead II x5

Needs AWU5, and an EE1% + cheap wu-1003 implants. And again don't forget cheap 5% medium hybrid damage one.
    Nano vs Overdrive, your choice.

Pretty much, ABCs have ruined all attempts are trying to use BC or Cruiser sized ships =/
Besides, the Brutix outperforms the Astarte nowadays thanks to the utility high.

Navy Brutix has more EHP with an 800 plate than the Astarte does with a 1600, and it'll probably be cheaper too.

Would make sense if they were still cheap. The Gallente buff made the Eos and Astarte prices skyrocket.

I can't see it being a worthwhile investment when they're already similarly prices to popular CSs like the Sleipnir.

Utility highs are quite overrated imo, when everyone flew dualneut canes they were important, but nowadays if you are getting neuted it mostly a dedicated neut ship (in which case a nos wont help much) or a bs (in which case you're dead anyways), the only reason the astarte is bad atm is that the absolution is too good in comparison.

It has nothing to do with the Absolution, it is because of ABCs for the most part (and to a far lesser extent T3 cruisers - a Proteus gang >>>>> Astarte gang)

Flying an Astarte solo makes no sense, that's what you have to consider. Also, if you are indeed flying solo, a utility high becomes immediately valuable.

I think thats probably not true, the commonplace nature of ABCs means most brawling/active tank ships will have an issue, ABCs have good speed manoeuvrability and huge DPS making it much harder to run an active tank with minimal buffer.

Not talking about solo. The resistance bonus and the extra range just make the absolution way much better, and the dps isn't even significantly worse.

Why fly a slow tanky fleet with Absos when you could fly nano Talos/Nado or stout Naga fleets instead?

Because a absolution tanks over 80k dps per triage archon.

Snuff used to roll them quite a bit, as did some other armour heavy groups. They are way better ships then abcs for what they do. A talos that has a single magstab will do about 860dps, has 67k ehp and tanks about 2200 per guardian, the absolution does around 780dps, has 232k ehp and tanks around 5k per guardian repping it. So you can roll with half as much guardians and will still tank more, they are way less alpha weak and the tracking is much greater.

(all numbers with fits i created in 5min, so far from optimal, all numbers with what these armour heavy groups usually roll with i.e slaves and legion links).

That is pretty much what you can do with a command ship, the shield versions has the sleipnir (i.e what sc do) which in turn makes the nighthawk obsolete. Due to the absolution beeing this good and the astarte offering pretty much nothing unique bar slightly higher dps you dont see any astarte fleets. The reasons you dont see this many absos is that they are scary, unmobile and thus weak to tracking dreads. You can also do better with a armour legion for a bit more.
