Sounds like a solid reason to go home early; it's a medical necessity!

This morning I had a demo from a contractor who is supposed to be automating some build tests.
He has taken the instruction to include a unique ID in a comment field for each entered record so they can be identified later for forensic purposes a little literally.

Yep, you guessed it. Every record now has "Unique ID" in the comment field.

I mean he's not technically wrong as such, the spec did assume a certain level of tacit knowledge, apparently inappropriately, and it could have been explicit by giving an example of a unique ID...

    But still.

    Good work.

You're lucky he didn't overwrite the Unique ID of every record. Assuming your records have Unique IDs.

considering the nature of the fuckup, do you even need to ask ?

i mean Ukrainians provide barely-compiles code that works, fillipino's provide doesn't compile code with a executable that "works"* while indians provide literal spec implementations, to the letter rather than the intent.

and fair is fair, slightly better code than the Ukrainians, that's my second hand experience anyway.

Many of the people working in your average Indian IT firm have atrocious understanding of the English language, so they tend to take things literally. I'm doing my MBA part-time and I simply CANNOT use language that might be even slightly subtle with my fellow students, as it tends to go straight over their head. Every week is an exercise in "Will I tear my hair out today?"

the local supermarket just downsized the minced meat packages from 900g to 800g for the 50 dkk ones, this means i can no longer reliably stretch such a pack over three days when doing pasta, absolute dip-shit scenes right there.

i'd been fine with a price hike, whatever, but dont fuck with the portion sizing!

Really though many studies have shown that people dislike price hikes more than smaller amounts

Just chuck in a load of red split lentils to bulk it out

i am already bulking it out on the third day, you get two days of boring old tomato-with-meat-and-pasta and then a day of "i wonder what this vaguely edible thing i found in the bargain bin is, let's chuck it and find out!" experimentation.

Just cook it with the lentils to start with, chuck them in with a bit of extra stock/water to stop them drying it out too much.

    Right.

So you're not generally aware of how much you're supposed to be paid?
