I hate driving. It's boring and stressful at the same time. I'd love to have a self-driving car.

I also hate the sound of cars. They're even more noise in a society that bombards us with useless noise everywhere. Vehicle noise intrudes on places that should be quiet, like parks. It's a sign of inefficiency. It helps the blind, but that's about it.

I don't care about having a V8. I can get more torque and higher efficiency out of an electric motor.

I'd rather summon a car at the push of a button. I own a car to get from point A to point B, with some cargo. I'm an engineer. I create things.

If their assumption that in the near future EVs are cheaper, have decent range and maybe more accessible*, then I also think that most people will go for EV instead of a nice sounding car.
To be honest I'm not quite sure if you are serious.

*For example you don't have to drive or even buy it, it just comes to you with the push of a button.
You know what else "comes with a push of a button"? Pizza. Should we rejoice at this marvel of civilization and declare cooking food from scratch outdated?

Youngsters used to tinker with junk cars and race them against each other (be it matchbox, soapbox, or real ones). This was preparing them to be engineers, scientists or at least assembly workers.

Now people dream about "summoning car with a push of a button". where's the satisfaction in that?!? People replace the joy of creation with the joy of consumption. They have no clue how cars work, how batteries work, how autopilot work, and, most importantly, what are the risk and pitfalls of all that technology.

They say they just want to "get from Point A to Point B". Fair enough, but if their only skill being mindless, helpless consumers, the question that needs to be asked: "do we fucking need these people at Point B at all?!?"

I wish you could take us from point a to an actual point because you're ramblings are devoid of one. It appears that you are arguing against innovating personal transportation because "herpa derp, if we make that part of our lives more easy, affordable and efficient how the hell will we inspire future engineers"

The problem started when we invented matches. People replaced the joy of creating fire with the consumption of cooked food.

Can you start a fire without a match? Because if not, and the electricity goes out for more than a few ours, you are not eating cooked food, buddy.

If you can't find any joy in the roar of an engine with all the associated sensations that go with it then I'm afraid something is missing in you

Yes when you're trying to relax in a public place noise is a nuisance. That's going to be true of any mode of transport, tyres on a road still make noise. But if you really can't find anything to like about engines beyond efficiency I really do think something is deficient in your personality.

It's like not enjoying food. Some people consume food only as a means to keep themselves alive. I consider those people to be missing some key part of what makes a human a human. If you can't enjoy the taste of food beyond having some kind of disability that removes your sense of taste, I'm sorry but something *is* wrong with you.

That's exactly what they do. "Tinker". Not design, engineer, build, then climb inside of it and hurl down the hill, but "tinker". I.e. put together from pre-made components design to fit together, so parents can marvel at how smart Little Jimmy is who made a "robot" by putting a fucking GoPro on an store-bought RC car.

In my days at space camp, we had to dig and haul sand, so we can grow silicon ingots to make wafers for guidance system microchips.

One day we lost five kids in hydrazine fueling mishap.

Indeed. People who complain about German cars are those who can't afford or properly care for them.

All my three Audis were bought new and each went beyond 200,000 miles. All three were sold in perfect running condition.
my last german car (A5) had a tendancy to shit oil, melt spark plugs and have weekly electrical tantrums

hey anecdotal evidence is the best sort ja?
    Did you buy it new?
sorry Don missed this - yes, well basically (fleet car, 5k miles through her). went back to fleet and then to audi countless times and they never sorted the electrical or oil issues, even after stripping the guts of it out.

You bought a used fleet car? After just 5k? Did you ever stopped to think about why they were selling it with such a low mileage?

I suppose alot of perception is skewed these days when it comes to socialization and cars.

Cars used to be something people would aspire, because individual mobility means freedom. To go to places, be independent and what not. Of course most young people these days cant afford shit because they are poor as fuck and what not prefer to use their little money buying useless iphones and other piece of electronic slave devices. So yeah actually affording something non electronic is a low priority, and electronic skew in perception is so large that even a fucking shitcar tesla is considered awesome when the same money gets you a decked out m760i.

    Fucking new generation, diaf.

Quoting this so your abject idiocy is saved forever. Just to make sure.

No, buying an overly expensive car has nothing to do with individual mobility and freedom but everything with you wanking off about how amazing you are. Which is hilarious when you talk about the wonders of cars and then buy a fucking disgusting looking diesel.
