I've not managed to watch this yet to form a judgement but mass user submitted reviews on the internet are not generally the most valuable source of genuine critique.

It's really nothing to write home about.

I gave it a 6 on imdb myself.

ST:NG also wasn't at the start. Took them four seasons to get good.

If you want to watch something funnier and in the same parodic vein, try Other Space.

Wasn't hugely impressed. Should have gone full homage or full parody. This was neither.

It is a star trek parody, that got real life issues it addresses.

3 more episodes to get better.
If the series remain the same quality as the first episode, it's gonna get cancelled after season 1.
Orville is quite expensive compared to the other sci-fi flicks.

I enjoyed it. By no means perfect, but it was a good 8/10 effort. It's upbeat, it has interesting characters, and while it's going to walk a tight rope between comedy and drama, the potential is clearly there.

    Watched episode 2.

I was thinking how weirdly professional it seems for a comedy. It's interesting.

Also who could miss "Is the order given" is close to "Is the word given Admiral from The Wrath of Khan.

I like the appropriate and almost always in the background music.

Overall, good second episode tbh in my view.
"I think we could all do with sitting back a bit and detaching ourselves from the situation to really think about how these issues reflect on our future and how we discuss them here and be a bit less aggressive or defensive because everyone has a complicated set of circumstances that has led the to place importance on particular issues and it doesn't meany any of them is less valid, we just need to look at the broader picture"

Even though the pilot was already good, that episode was a nice step up. It didn't have to muddle through the requirements of a pilot - explain everything and provide lots of good clips for promoting the show - so it was a lot more focused and the humor wasn't as forced. Also, I think it's fair to say that Alara got more character development in this one episode than Hoshi Sato got in the entire first season of Enterprise...

2nd Ep. Was indeed pretty weak.

Not serious enough to be taken seriously.

Not nearly funny enough to be a comedy.

Tough road ahead if they get that wrong.
