    The Orville [Megathread]

    Come on... let's do this

So I just watched it and no spoilers:

Was worried about mcfarlane being too mcfarlany with the slighly cringe trailers but it was good without being too camp.

    1) That music, you could hear the Next Gen themes in there
    2) Music throughout, was nice
    3) Ending, classically funny.. what a way to win
    4) Nice seeing kassidy yates and bashirs father from DS9 in there
    5) Overall, actually quite an enjoyable watch
    6) That leaving space dock scene.. so many callbacks

Give the first episode a watch without many expectations.

Edit: And star trek reddit doesn't generally seem to hate it.

"I think we could all do with sitting back a bit and detaching ourselves from the situation to really think about how these issues reflect on our future and how we discuss them here and be a bit less aggressive or defensive because everyone has a complicated set of circumstances that has led the to place importance on particular issues and it doesn't meany any of them is less valid, we just need to look at the broader picture"

Yeah had 0 expectations after the awful trailer but it's actually a nice and silly star trek homage and not just one bad joke after the other

Indeed, it was a very clever solution. But how could a ship be so structurally weak?

It's okay. Definitely has a cheesy low-budget feel but I'm sure that's an intentional reference to 90s Trek / Stargate.

I didn't find the pilot laugh out loud funny but it's watchable.

While it has a good entertainment value, it is not megathread worthy.

Those reviewers are full of shit, I thought it was great. Somewhere between a homage and a parody.
