On a serious note, I wonder if all of these long-term projections actually include the whole genocide bit. Wouldn't hundreds of millions of people dying cut a lot of carbon emissions? Maybe enough to stop warming at a certain point?
Only if the right people get killed. The people responsible for creating the largest carbon emissions are unlikely to get drafted.
If you live near the equator, shits going to get nasty due to environmental conditions.

If you live away from the equator, shits going to get nasty as your society adapts to either absorb or reject refugees from Earths newly uninhabitable waistline. Either choice is likely to see a swing towards authoritarianism, either to enforce acceptance of the new arrivals or enact the type of hard-line policies necessary to keep them away.

In both locations, the people that suffer and die will tend to be the ones with the smallest carbon footprints.
The world will soon belong to the Australian.. We are already used to everything trying to kill us and the environment trying to burn us. We have literally been training for this for the last 100 years.
    hah!

Depends on who you kill. The average American is responsible for 10 times the CO2 emissions as the average Indian for example. The Chinese are at 2,5 people per American, so somewhere in between.

And there's another counter-intuitive problem: when children are more likely to die people produce exponentially more of them. The best way to stop the world population from growing is to combat poverty worldwide. This is already slowly happening, and by extrapolating from historic data but without taking climate change into account the world population is expected to top out at about 10 billion around 2050 or so. A climate disaster on the scales now predicted has the possibility of driving our population growth up again, since it will put billions of people firmly back into the worst kinds of poverty. But if food production does indeed drop towards 50% at the end of this century we can't sustain those numbers at all, so the death tolls are going to be insane and completely unlike anything we've seen before.

I don't doubt that some building codes are more lax than others.

But are we seriously going to start another argument about "LOL AMERICAN QUALITY", which will inevitably end with a jaw-dropping cost comparison between yurop and the colonies, a comparison of natural disasters, and an acknowledgement that American houses are actually decently-built?

The McMansion and the glorified wood shed encapsulate American ingenuity and cultural depth we all know and love.

Florida isnt earthquake country though (it gets the occasional tiny one like anywhere, but nothing risky).
By all means build houses in California out of paper though (well....i guess Cali does catch fire a lot though, so maybe not?).

Yes, it's a problematic quandary. Wood still is a bountiful resource here. Un-reinforced masonry turns into lethal stuff during seismic events. Both burn.

No, but seriously, at least we still have forests.

As someone who has built houses to code, they are not toothpicks, and those wind forces would take out, and did take out metal and masonry based structures. It's a fucking hurricane you autists.

So you're saying this vindicates brutalism as an architectural style?

Reinforced concrete doesn't burn, doesn't blow away, and doesn't collapse (as easily) in earthquakes.

Is this where we all conveniently forget about the shit quality of housing in places like Portugal and act like "Europe" is Holland and Germany?
