I think I'm on the mend. Nasal passages are clearing and oozing is almost completely stopped. Heart rate is higher than I'm used to, though.

Nasal splints were removed today and nasal cavities partially cleaned out. Some of these chunks I'm blowing out look like raw meat...

Hey, next time you feel down, and everything seems Black, you can rejoice in the fact that what you are actually seeing is not the blackest black, but just Eigengrau.
You're welcome.
With my nose addressed, I've moved on to other issues. Doc says I have four different types of fungus in my toenails. No worries, should be going on a new antifungal tomorrow, pending lab results.
Related note: Has anyone else here ever experienced perfect darkness, that is, the complete absence of light? It's unnerving when you can't tell if your eyes are open or closed.

One of the "perks" of living in a rural area with frequent power outages. If it's cloudy enough you can even enjoy it outdoors.
Yes, in the Negev dessert, in deep woods, in caves. Its weird and disorientating.
I spoke to duckslayer about this last year. In a deep forest almost no light and can not see stars because of tree canopy your mind starts playing tricks with you, paranoia etc. You do get used to it after a while tho, multiple nights. Also it makes your ears better/tuned which also plays tricks with you if you are a city person as you are not used to that.
Regarding darkness in a dessert i can tell you one of the best natural things i have ever seen is a storm front getting closer with lightening, scary but such a beauty to behold!

All truth passes through three stages.
First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident..
Well, just a few minutes at a time, while I load my film into a developing tank, which has to be done in perfect darkness. Which is a lot easier now that I have access to a room with no windows :P
But yes, I remember closing my eyes just so I could concentrate on the touch sensation, and then realizing it didn't matter whether they were open or closed.

Just looking east over the border gives one a sight of just utter darkness.
I've been using readers for my eyes for a few years now, and today I picked up my first pair of prescription glasses.
It's disorienting and I don't like it. Yes, I now have proper stereoscopic vision, but now I have my blurry left eye vision superimposed over my good right eye vision. Is this going to get better?
edit: Several hours of testing suggests no.

I switched from a pair of +4/+2 glasses to a cheap pair of +2 readers. My gosh, it's like night and day. I'm far more comfortable, with no pain. And no fuzzy vision superimposing.
But...stuff more than 6 feet away gets a little fuzzy, even when covering the bad eye. Didn't have this problem with +1.5 readers. Found myself occasionally looking over my glasses at road signs, which I had no trouble reading.
I will still try the prescription glasses, though.

One of my regular visiting crows, a murder of four, enjoying its treat.
This one has increasingly become more comfortable with me being close around. We seem to have established a routine on how we proceed to "order & serve the treats". When there are no more nuts left - I currently serve shelled peanuts and cashew, he lands on the balcony and looks around a bit disappointed. I then grab a few and slowly only put my hand with the the nuts in front of the curtain, so that he can see them. I then carefully pull back the curtain, so obviously he sees me standing there. This is when he then flies up to the gutter and watches me from there. I nod at him, speak a few words and slowly put down all nuts on the table, but one after one, so that he can recognize they all come from me. I then turn around and leave so that he can get them without me "imposing a threat".
This weekend he pleasantly surprised me. After I placed all nuts on the table and turned around to leave, I recognized the characteristic "tap" sound stemming from the claws when they land on the table. I watched over my shoulder and there he was on the table already, inspecting "the goods", while I was still on the balcony and essentially in grabbing distance to him. Unsure what to do to not scare him, I kept standing still until he selected the peanut of his choice and flew away with it.
Later the day, he appeared again and we went through the same "no more nuts there - human, would you mind to refill" routine. This time I decided to gamble. Instead of leaving, I knelled down at the table showing my side to him / the nuts instead of my back. I didn't look at his direction, though.
I could figuratively sense what was going on in his head, as he wagered his chances of getting a treat vs. the danger if getting that close to me. It took him a while, but then he came down from the gutter and landed an the table. Still not looking directly at him, I could see him cautiously looking back and forth to me and his treats. I still didn't move (and it was getting cold) when he finally decided to try his chances and get a nut. He even started pecking away at it and eating it right on the table why I was kneeling next to him. Afraid of scaring him away, I patiently waited until he had finished and finally flew away.
The photo sequences below is from when he came back later for another treat.
Spoilered because of large(r) pictures.
Spoiler:
That's awesome, you'll be eating crow stew in no time
