Nikon D40 - went for cheapy body when I was just starting out, am starting to look at a new one now I understand things a bit bettter.

    18-55 Kit lens
    55-200
    50mm f1.4
    105mm macro f2.8

On the buy list is something that can do 10 - 20mm range, and upgrading the camera body.

$/€/pound 300? I think the Tamron 90 2.8 Macro is in that league (fakeedit: amazon.co.uk agrees). Get it, friend of mine has one, it is AWESOME for the money.

Thanks Frools and Joe, I'll probably get both. With summer coming up and living on a Garden Nursery there is plenty of opportunity to use it

Have you already invested into Tue Pentax system? Of so, go for it. If not, go Canon or Nikon. Why? More lenses available, especially second hand, at good prices. Canon also has a decent price range.

Obviously Canon, avoid the 1100 (no idea what the US name is), go for at least the 600d. Any camera above that is even better.

Looked at a really nice studio space today, thinking I might pull the trigger and sign the lease.

    70-200mm

Bought Sony because I have a friend with lots of Sony/Konica lenses etc. who lends me cooler stuff if needed, so I've got access to cool stuff...

    Canon EOS 10D with 35 mm F2
    Nikon F-301

I have 2 of their bags, the streetwalker for backpack and an urban disguise 60 as my everyday bag. Both are fantastic, I'm thinking about adding one of the retrospective series for when I want a slightly smaller bag with no laptop compartment.

If you tell me what type of bag you want and what you're going to do with it I can help better.

Yeah I made a thread before I was directed to this one, will just cross post it
So i recently bought a nikon d3100 with an 18-55mm plus a 35mm prime lens and a 55-200mm telephoto lens, I am currently looking for an appropriate bag to to protect this equipment however as I have bought this camera for backpacking around asia and south america I want it to be both functional, i.e able to hold more than just camera stuff as I'll be wanting to have it as a daypack and camera bag combined as well as being secure. I've seen a couple of bags which look to perform in this way, the best bags I've seen for this particular purpose are sold by naneu, e.g.

    http://www.naneubags.com/products-by-se ... -ops/alpha - Ideal

    http://www.naneubags.com/products-by-se ... enture/k3l - less secure :/

however they don't appear to have a uk distributor, keeping an eye on ebay ofc

I'm trying to avoid lowepro bags as I'm worried they will make me a target for theft (well more than usual anyway)

Just wondering if there are any photographers here which have found a good daypack style camera bag. I'll probably just take my 35mm and 18-55mm lens when i actually go travelling, but would like room for camera + 3 lenses anyways
edit: just been looking into kata bags, the 465 might be appropriate; review - http://gudphoto.com/2011/02/17/bag-revi ... -backpack/

    Re: Photography Tech Thread

that does look excellent but i can't seem to find a uk distributor and there are none on ebay, also i think its a bit out of my budget, I was hoping to get one for <£50 :/ I'm no pro, just want to keep a camera and a couple of lenses safe from knocks and dirt whilst i explore
