    Photography Tech Thread

    Hokay...

I know we had a photography thread, but that was more about the photos than the tech.

    Sooo.... post your gear.

    Here:

    Canon 400D w/battery grip
    Canon 18-55mm EF-S
Canon 17-85mm EF-S - broken at the moment
    Canon 50mm f1.8 EF
    Canon 18-200mm EF-S
    Sigma 10-20mm F4.0 EF-S
    Tamrom 55-200mm EF-S

I might get a Sigma 17-70mm next, to replace my broken Canon 17-85 (the zoom died, know fault )

Get the Canon 15-85mm instead, it is supposedly crazy sharp.

    I'm exceedingly jealous.

When I did my photographpy GCSE 6 years ago, I used a Canon A1.

Now Looking to get a new Canon. Have not yet joined the DSLR age, however have a Sony 8MP Compact from a couple of years ago that I bought as a stopgap.

A bunch of lighting shit and tripod and whatnot.

Probably getting a 1Dmk4 next, I don't think there are any lenses i vitally need and second bodies are pro.

only thing I can think off is like a 17-40mm to cover the even wiiiider range. but you pretty much have everything covered with the 24-70 + 70-200mm combo

Well seeing as its a 1.3x sensor instead of a 1.6x, 24mm is actually quite wide. I'd love a 16-35, but its rare that I need to go much wider and I'm constantly raging at only having 8mp, shitty ISO 3200, and having to switch lenses.

    Re: Photography Tech Thread

Compared to some people here (Ben & Hast, looking at you guys!) this is not all that great, but works for me.

    Sony A100
    18-70 piece of shit kit
Minolta 50 1.7 (good old quality glass)
Sigma 70-300 (got quite lucky, not a dud)
Carl Zeiss Jena 135 3.5 from the 70s, m42 mount, sharp wide open, small, all metal, tank like construction, beautiful color and contrast

Metz 48 AF flash, works wireless with my camera which is plain awesome.

Most of my usage is party pictures for Uni, so the flash gets used a lot together with the kit. As the nature of these pictures go, wide open and corner performance is not important. What annoys me a bit is the AF on the A100 which is rather hit and miss, and the high iso capabilities. Too bad I do not have the money for a new body or different lenses. I do enjoy the Zeiss a lot and am actually thinking about when upgrading the body to ditch dslr completely and go for an EVIL.

More like Canikon dominates and the Nikon users don't feel the need to post yet.

    Canon EOS 60D
    Tamron 17-50 f2.8 VC

Currently looking at buying a decent tele lens (leaning towards the new Tamron 70-300 VC which is supposed to be excellent price/performance), an external flash and maybe a good, possibly macro, prime lens.

I've been on a trip to Rome with my family a few weeks ago and I paid attention to the DSLR gear people were openly carrying around at all the usual tourist spots. Canon was easily the most used, Nikon came in a distant second but still quite frequently used. Sony/Pentax/etc. I saw only very rarely.
