Venezuela Civil War - Undead Trotsky vs Team America: World Police

Well looks like shit is going down.

Police helicopter attacking supreme court, Maduro arming his supporters and various people against the Maduro regime taking up arms.

After the Supreme Court effectively banned democratic opposition, Chavezistas shooting up protesters and
the general decay of a once oil rich country to supposed socialist policies designed to placate the poor.

I don't think Russia can get the planes to save Maduro and his Chavez policies [bit far for their aircraft carrier].
Will Colombia, Brazil get involved? Will Cuba start sending troops? Will Bolivia stay out?

You can be sure as hell the USA will get involved. Who predicts the first time Smuggo mentions oil?
I'll guess first page, all predictions will end up wrong.

We can merge it with the US Slurp thread after Trump takes over all of the Americas.

Might as well leave it, sooner or later there will be a change of government there and events surrounding it may be worthy of discussion. Or there won't.

I've not read or heard much about Venezuela but didn't they start introducing monetarist policies to deal with inflationary shocks? Which were caused by the price of their largest export plummeting. Which they were using to leverage a massive expansion of their agricultural industries (to reduce their reliance on food imports). And now there's a political power struggle between different arms of government riding on the wave of public discontent.

I'm not sure why Venezuela is suddenly seen as special. There are political crises across central and south american nations all the time, off the top of my head Brazil's president is currently being pelted with corruption charges and god knows what's happening in Mexico.

yeh but venezuelans are actively hurling molotovs at government troops on a regular basis, as well as building blockades and shit. Kinda like ukraine but a slow burner instead of the fast ignition. All we need now is for Russian troopscitizens to start making their way over there

Because 5-10 years ago stalinist tits like you the world over were holding Chavez up as the one true Socialist messiah bringing hope to the masses. It's only once all the left wing policies utterly imploded (who knew ridiculous price controls against a background of deliberate free-market-collapse temporarily paid for by unsustainable mineral wealth extraction by incompetent state expropriators would backfire!!) that you lot started griping he was a secret neolib

Well that's incredibly privileged and ignorant of you. Venezuala is "special" because the level of suffering it is currently experiencing, particularly through medication and food shortages brought about by government import and price controls, together with the level of oppression of dissent, with armed forces in the streets.

I'm a Stalinist now? Wow thanks, I'd completely not realised.

As you apparently think this is somehow all my fault I'll issue an apology to the Venezuelan people pronto. I'll be holding you to account for everything centrists and liberal interventionists have ever done as well. That'll surely lead to a productive discussion. I don't think I've ever passed comment on Chavez or his policies, because I don't really know about them. I can only comment on what I've heard peripherally.

I'm not sure why your privileged little panties are all in a twist about this, a banana republic trying to reorganise their economy through centrally controlled capital measures to reduce their reliance on a single commodity has fucked it up. I don't know what's even been done there, let alone have any idea how it could have been properly handled. Yeah it's a massive tragedy but tragedies are played out all over the world all the time, and you can't blame all of them on socialism (perhaps you could, it'd be a bit reductive though).
