    so, this happened.
how hard can it be to comprehend that the way to actually have a union going forward is trough solidarity ? this is not about taking on their mortgage, but refusing to lend them the fucking garden hose and then trying to charge them for bedrolls when they want to camp in the burned out ruins. condemning Italy and Spain to another 10-15 years of austerity is going to kill the whole project before the decade is out, neither country's political system can take another decade of non-recovery.
    Viking, n.:
    1. Daring Scandinavian seafarers, explorers, adventurers, entrepreneurs world-famous for their aggressive, nautical import business, highly leveraged takeovers and blue eyes.
    2. Bloodthirsty sea pirates who ravaged northern Europe beginning in the 9th century.

Hagar's note: The first definition is much preferred; the second is used only by malcontents, the envious, and disgruntled owners of waterfront property.

Indeed, rather stupid move by the Dutch, especially in the light of Brexit.

Its not all doom and gloom.
Any spending on healthcare will be "free", and rebuilding will be on favourable loans how ever they want to "name" them.

Italy and Spain is not being thrown under the buss here, thats just hyperbole deluxe.

Without mutialisation of debt they are being let down. It’s not a great look. In fact it’s pretty terrible.

No this is very much about taking on their mortgage. Southern countries seeing the corona crisis as a good way of trying to shove eurobonds through (now dubbed coronabonds for extra emotional charge) is pretty clever but isn't going to work.

If the Dutch government were to actually accept that after the last few years of not terribly popular cutbacks to get our debt down it probably would not end well for them. Anti-EU sentiment is already stupidly high here and eurobonds would probably give the anti-EU party/ies all the ammo they need for a landslide victory along with the power & support required to start a Nexit. (because the Brexit clusterfuck apparently didnt dissuade these people)

If the south needs money they can turn to the ESM, lots of money available there.

500bill of un-mutualised debt that isn’t shared. When it should be 2 trill of mutualised.

Haha, yeh, fantastic idea. That’ll engender some real inter-eu love.

Extremely strict frugal upbringing that results in a robot like emotional detachment when it comes to finances i guess? For the Dutch that is. Dunno about other northern countries.

There is a very strong sentiment that we in the north, and NL a disproportionate part, picked up the tab for the financial 2008 crisis. All the while we have been under austerity for over a decade.

Joshua already said it, there is a real storm brewing which would go crit if we went along with the original coronabonds. The south will get the euro's they need.

ahhh the auld chestnut of "I understand household finances therefore economic policy is well within my wheelhouse as a concerned citizen"

It plays really fucking well with the moronic public when politicians tell people "we can't afford x and y are just lazy anyway". This is how the UK got to be Brexitstan and nobody should be following it down that road.

Poland treats me like shit and I hate them as a result of it
