You understand that this is sarcasm, right? I haven't watched any Star Wars movies since Phantom Menace.

Sorry I cross referenced versus the previous posting database and my system output suggested you might have been serious.

May the force be with you.

What is a Porg? It looks like an owl-penguin-red panda-hamster Frankenstein (don't correct me).

edit: RLM review is in. Result is: meh.

Meh, they pick some really odd things to focus on, like

      Spoiler:
Yoda being a bit of a goofball. Dude gets to pop in as a magic ghost and fuck with his favorite student by blowing up the last Jedi holy place with lightning. I'd be giggling like a madman too.

I'm more sympathetic to not caring for the film's humor, if that doesn't work for you then I can see how it would feel like it's undercutting the more serious elements. But for me Luke throwing away the lightsaber without a word was great.

    I dunno. Felt kinda rambling.

Sounds like a similar thing to the Yoda fights in the prequels. If you're into that, it's cool. If you're wedded to Yoda as the wise old sensei, then it's just dumb.

Just saw it, for me it was a mixture between cool and perplexion.

Was trying too hard to be a homage instead of its own thing.
A bit like the The Force Awakens and the Third Death Star in this regard.

Tried to be The Empire Strikes Back, failed.

    Some things
      Spoiler:

Who was Snoke and what did he do? There was no explanation of him, maybe we aren't meant to know, maybe the third film will explain it.
But still, what is his relationship with Ben Solo?

Throne scene and fight was cool and epic and we finally got to see what red painted Sith Lord guards actually do instead of just standing around and posing.
Might be too much of a copy of Return of the Jedi but still was quite excellent.

    Too much plot armour imo

How did Rey get from the Supreme Leaders Super Star Destroyer to the Millennium Falcon?

    Salt Plains = Hoth

Ben Solo was at his best.

Strategic and tactical incompetence from the Rebels [not that the First Order were much better mind] again but they are only Rebels because they lost the Republic again.

    Yoda was good.

Blowing up the SS Destroyer was cool.

Half in the Bag is right, it was a little bit everywhere at once [casino planet anyone?]

Tried too hard to be funny, might work in one or two instances but not all.

    Ending Luke, too easy.

I went back and watched the force awakens tonight on UK Netflix and I still quite like it.

Sure the plot is essentially a rehashed version of a new hope, but it does a good job of making you care about the characters and injects just the right amount of nostalgia. It also feels consistent and well paced, things the Last Jedi lacks. It's also a bit of a missed opportunity having Rey and Finn separated for the course of the entire movie as the characters mesh really well together.

Yeah I am not downplaying Force Awakens [I am more stressing the third death star bit] but it at least manages to do a rehash fairly successfully albeit not always succeeding in some places.

Fair. I hated prequel Yoda, but to me this goofball giggling one was much more like the OT...basically trolling Luke again.

Also, I think he was a muppet (practical effect) in most of the shots. Hated CGI Yoda in the prequels, especially given the SOTA in animatronics around 99-04. Jar Jar had to be CGI, Yoda didn't.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who got the Pokémon vibe.
