    TMA: Vienna

I'm in Vienna at the end of April for a week at a conference and then have a free few days afterwards when the girlfriend will fly out and join me. I'm looking to stay fairly close to the U1 metro line for easy access to conference venue.

    Any suggestions for:
places to eat during the week (evening time)
things to do at the weekend
    areas to avoid for accommodation

Looking at you Stoffl and Freddy!

I guess in this day and age google is your good friend as it really depends on taste. Although Vienna isnt so big, google maps always helps too

But a big part of sightseeing in Vienna will always be cultural stuff i guess.
There is loads of museums catering to most anybodies taste. The 1st (center) district itself is always worth just being explored on foot. Lots of stuff around the Ringstrasse which encircles it. Notable things may be the Stephansdom (St. Stephens Cathedral) at its center, Hofburg, Rathaus, Parlament along Ringstrasse.
The Museumsquartier (Art Historical, Natural Historical Museums, Museum for modern art) also on Ringstrasse, Schönbrunn palace (& Tiergarten / Zoo), Prater inkl. Riesenrad (ferris wheel) ...

If you are staying close to the metro i cant really think of any areas i d really avoid. Vienna is pretty much as safe as it gets for a 1.5mill+ city. Also there should be a good amount of reasonable priced tourist 4star hotels or such. (trivago.com is a decent comparison site)

As far as good eats go, the locals (i only studied there years ago) probably can give better tips
But same as with culture, you find decent food everywhere in the city. Also everything from local stuff to international cuisine, or from the old Kaffehaus (Coffee house) to Starbucks. And a lot, really a lot, sweet food / deserts ...
Vienna isnt cheap, but also not that expensive. But that mostly depends on where you are from.

P.S.: and i forgot, since your GF is coming too .. Shopping. Kärnterstrasse (1st district) and Mariahilferstrasse (between 6th and 7th district, extenting out from the Ringstrasee next to Museumsquartier) and you are set .. just dont give your CC to your GF ;P

    MMM. Sacher Tort.

The gelato in Vienna is practically better than in Italy as well, imo.

One of the most wealthy towns in the ultra-wealthy Northern Virginia burbs. Great restaurants there too. Have fun!

Go to the Schweizerhaus if you want to spend an afternoon with friends/gf. Take U1 to Praterstern & its about an 800m walk into the Prater itself.

Also Budweiser Budvar is God of Beers

I moved there ~6 months ago, it's p. chill. Not really any areas to avoid.
Public transportation works really well so it doesn't matter if you book something close to the U1 or not. CAT train (from/to airport) is a tourist trap, take the regular train.

I don't really go to fancy food places that often, so I can't help you there, but Angolo 22 has really Italian good pizza. My Italian friends tell me there's a slightly better one however I forget what it's called.

I once had a big vienna touristy post but I can't find it anymore and I CBA to type it all up again lol. Must've been on SHC.

Schnitzelwirt for the authentic Portk Schnitzel carnage experience, huge portion size. Greasy.
    Figlmüller more expensive and touristy.

Cafe Landtmann or really any upper scale restaurant for the proper recipe Veal experience.
Wiener Schnitzel + Petersilerdäpfel. Do it faggot.
    Beef Tartar as a starter.

Restaurants around the 9th district I know are proper:
Zum roten Bären, traditional viennese cuisine with a bit of a hipster twist
Fresco Grill, tex mex burrito / mexican food stuff. Amazing.
Fladerei, fresh baked flatbread filled with :stuff:
Siebensternbräu, Micro brewery with food, I never went there for the food but it was fine from my experience
    Pizzeria Riva, authentic napoletana pizza
Rocky Docky in the 16th district - Everything beef, dry aged steaks. Hands down the best price/performance you'll get for dat sweet sweet dry aged striploin experience

KEBAP - both more of a takeaway thing but have a couple seats
Döneria on Schwarzspanierstraße 22, Tepe in Berggasse 29
Diwan - charcoal grilled lamb/veal for the ultimate experience, Wallensteinstraße 48, 1200 Wien

    The 3:45am drunk Würstelbuden experience
Leo Wiener Würstelstand, Döblinger Gürtel 2
Bitzinger behind Albertina is more central
    KÄSEKRAINER - do it.

Regarding drinks or nightlife tips I require input.
Bars, Clubs, faggoty slimey uper scale bars, gigs at grimey clubs, the possibilites are endless

Also don't go to Schweizerhaus unless you wanna get ripped of, it's a tourist trap. If you don't mind that nbd. The beer is nice though.
