    UA in the hold to trigger was what everyone thought initially, it's only after the initial flurry of reports that proper info is coming out.

    Someone got hyperdicted... in Sol system.

    Initial reports were that hyperdictions were only happening in the 'UA Bubble' around Merope (i.e. the area in which unknown artifacts spawn). Seems that's not the case!

    I really need to fix my bootcamp partition so I can reinstall Elite.

    It seems more of a breadcrumb, for now.

    I've seen the subreddit posts on the alien ruins, and honestly, there doesn't seem to be anything solid that leads people to the next clue(s).

    Looks like an issue with FDev implementing the ruins and their specific coding.

    Probably be this year. Some kind of alien ship has already been seen and is pulling pilots out of hyperspace, the initial ruin discovery is linked to the Guardians (who aren't Thargoids) and a further two ruins are being investigated now, and the Formidine Rift stuff is still ongoing, but making progress.

    FDev dragging shit out for more than a year would be utterly foolish. Hopefully they won't.

    Also, multicrew info is starting to come out. 2.3 beta starts pretty soon iirc.

    more hype... zzzz.... the spikey ship kit looked cool but I suspect as this is prerendered it wont be a real ship kit.

    New scripted event in Maia, Thargoid casually wiped 4 (npc) Fed Corvettes. Not so sure I want to be hyperdicted anymore...

    In other news, it's confirmed that you do not need to have had contact with a UA in order to get hyperdicted.

    Those spiky ship kits are real though (includes rusty paintjobs), in the store now.

    I tried the new engineers, I really tried, but meh. So untill I've seen what new gameplay this entails and if its worth trying, my hype level will stay nominal.

    The POI the event directed you to was a bunch of ships wrecked by weird green stuff. It's been seen before, but this is the first time there's been a wrecked capital vessel (actually two). Not very exciting. Announcement isn't a surprise, they've been leading up to it for ages with the drip-feed of little events and POIs and the conspicuous lack of detail around 2.4 made it a done deal ages ago.

    Should still be good though. No doubt it'll mean more grind, but the possibility of alien ships and kit is quite appealing.

    Engineers are a chore to unlock but once that's done modding things is easy. Getting rare components is no trouble now either, explicit directions to everything you need are just a web search away and you can even 'buy' specific special effects by expending rep, which is trivially easy to replenish.

    yet despite these improvements I find the entire engineers bit unsatisfying, because its all straight upgrades with a different kind of currency. I actually though unlocking the engineers was more fun than actually engineering the ships, especially because the engineered ships make the rest of the game even more trivial.
