FWD>> at Plastic People was amazing last night. Youngsta and Silkie killed it.
Having never been to Plastic People before, the venue was amazing. A bunch of people there just to listen to the music, and a fucking top-notch sound system.

Because you're about to start earning a wage, and if they can get you to overextend yourself you will spend the next few years paying it back and making them lots of cash.

    Its all statistics.
Start earning a wage? I've still got 2 years of university left ahead of me and Barclays should know that, since I just applied to have my student overdraft account extended again.

    Oh right.

So you asked for essentially a loan at 0% interest and they've offered you a loan at 17.5% interest?

    Mystery solved :P

    Re: [Friday] fuck.

Woke up today at 2pm and I'm still tired... feels like a hangover. ~4hours of exams (with breakes so 6h total) is seriously nerve-wracking. At least I got this done but I'm pretty sure I won't pass one of them that was hilariously difficult although I learned a lot...

today I'll continue to learn for my organic chemistry exam next week. I took a look at older exams and I have no idea how I'm supposed to pass this exam :halp: /o\

The art of crafting Japanese swords is in danger of dying out as the number of swordsmiths declines rapidly.

    Transcript

A shame, when you think how long the tradition has existed for the craft.

    1. I violenced some Hulks last night and now I have a bounty on me again
Some ass in a Tengu will claim it, surely, on tomorrow's gank night.

    2. I found out my high school is not doing a 10 year reunion after all. This is a mixed blessing.

    3. I will walk two miles in the rain tonight to a concert and get drunk. Local band.

    4. Actual fragment of a conversation overheard at lunch today, re. Ryan Dunn:
"I saw the picture of the car and it was like nothing"
    "Inorite"
"You know he was in The Hangover. The guy with the beard and the name you like can't pronounce"

    Re: [Friday] fuck.

Finally got my car back from the shop. I would have had it back a few weeks ago but I decided I wanted to be scammed of my money 6 months ago and got an extended warranty on my car. The plus side of what should have been a pointless purchase is that it knocked my $4,100 bill for fixing my car down to $2,200. Technically that is a $1,900 discount off the $3,000 extended warranty. Feeling good about what should have been a bad decision!

I know the australian government have a hard on for censorship, its been in the press over the last few years about various abortive schemes. I disagree with censorship for the most part, but blocking CP seems like a good plan. Nobody wants to stumble across it.

In the UK we have the IWF, a charity who keep a blacklist of CP providers which the vast majority of ISPs use to block so in a way we're several years ahead of you down the slippery slope. A compromise could be an opt-in (/ out?) filter applied on a per account basis.

Probably make enforcement easier as well. "Do you want to block CP? No? Thats odd."
Okay so I'll try to explain: on our version of the slippery slope they start blocking things that aren't child porn from day one. They also do everything they can to make it hard (if not outright impossible) to find out what this not-actually-child-porn-or-even-illegal material is, whether they're even the ones blocking it, how to get them to stop blocking it and oh, by the way they're so shit at all of this that they also block harmless things or try to perma-block hacked websites that are innocent victims themselves.

Now do you see why this makes some people who aren't-pedophiles-at-all very nervous? We don't have a slippery slope, so much as a lubed chute.
I hope you people are aware that the CP that is not distributed via normal mail, is not shared on the world wide web.
Usenet, file sharing, darknets. If you want to sell something that universally illegal that usually comes from abusive parents who want to share the pictures and videos they take to a "wide" audience (read: there is basically no market), you use something a TINY bit more elaborate than a website.

In other words: Web filtering is exclusively used to filter anything but child porn. Because the latter is so universally loathed that even bulletproof hosters don't want to host that shit and will take it down.

Yes, and I covered this is an earlier post, I think. At the very least I pointed out that torrents & IRC nets are much more likely than just websites, which is what makes the surface detail on the government plans so pants-on-head silly.

Unless by "you people" you meant my government, in which case: no.

Well actually, yes. As in: yes, they probably are quite well aware of this. However, it feels like they're more than happy enough to try and pull a quick one on the public to install the foundations of a censorship regime in our telecommunications infrastructure.

Move along, nothing to see here.
