Thankfully I really don't know. Steam was at 70 hours before I started used the shortcut for windowed full screen mode. I've played every night and all weekend solidly since I bought it on 4th April. Currently mid campaign on hard difficulty with USI life support mod to spice things up a bit. The little adventures that emerge are more fun than most story driven games I've played, not least because it's your own fuck ups that got you into that situation.

Biggest problem I've had with Banished is that it's fun the first time when you're figuring stuff out. But after that there's no point at all, it's just a sandbox. More content doesn't solve that for me, unless some mods do stuff to improve replayability?
You're right ... in a way. You need to enjoy these kind of games, where you spend most of the time on watching your citizens do their thing and your city grow.

The above mentioned Colonial Charter is still worth a look, as it's basically a complete new game, adding tons new stuff. The game play is the same, though. Banished modability simply doesn't support to drastically change the game mechanics/behavior/"AI", AFAIK.
Well I don't mind watching my citizens do their thing and watching my city grow, I just want there to be an end to it all. In Banished the ending is basically the map running out of resources, and that's just dumb.

That said, I'm playing Frostpunk now, and that definitely does have goals to the city building. Only a few hours in so far but really liking it.

    What is (mindless) fun?

I've spent too many years waiting for new Age of Pirates when it dropped.

That said, I think Rogue is better if you just want dumb arcade-pirate action. Haven't finished an AC game since I or II.

    Got myself AC Origins.

Their attention to historic detail (outside of their story obviously) is just great. I'd love to have those games in VR for Google or something so I could use that in history classes. Origins offers an exploration mode. But I would need to be able to do this with 25 kids at once. For less than cheap.

I gave in last night and bought early access to "they are billions". first runs on super-easy mode were hilariously brief, but #3 i've just hit the Iron age at 75 days in, have loads of 'stuff', things are looking pretty sweet.

this is going to hurt isn't it ?

Lana's rule for early access games.. If its not in the game now, dont ever expect it to turn up.

there are plenty of early access games that are already good, if you're not a cynical bitter self-hater.
