That means less distance to the car in front of you than you may wish, and a lower speed. It can be quite white knuckled when the traffic jam harmonica hits and everyone hits the brakes. Apart from that, there's the old 'difference in speeds' problem. If you drive on a '130 km/h in the evening' highway, a lot of people* are confused whether it's 100 or 130 and may very well pull in front of you (while you're doing 130) with 95 km/h. That's even worse in Germany, where the speed difference can be a lot larger.

*It's not that hard. The kind of person confused by this is also the kind of person who'll just randomly (preferably without indicating it) pull in front of you while you go a lot faster.
I love people overtaking a lorry (which does 85kph by itself) going a whopping 100kph while I am coming in at 200.

I did Hannover to Stuttgart pretty much Autobahn only (except for a small detour to Point Alpha). I found it very civilized at 200 Kmh. Mrs. Knaar was freaking out though.

I'll try to make it to this one, it gives me an excuse to take the bike on a long run and some new surroundings for a few days will do me good.

When your highway has three lanes, that's not an issue.. but with two? Yes. I love driving fast on the Autobahn, but it takes more out of my concentration than cruising along at 120 km/h on a Dutch highway (130 is not the max everywhere ).

Like I said ^, I love it as well, but it does take more effort mentally. You have to keep more distance and respond fast, so you have to be more alert. Also, when you do 180 - 200 km/h in a BMW, you are reminded that the car was made for that speed and driving it slower is just a crime. Which sucks when you get back home.

I once averaged just over 200km/h during 2 hours and 15 mins on the autobahn. On winter tires (rated for 230km/h). And it started at a tanking station and ended at a tanking station, my 80 litre tank was almost empty after that.

Went home from Innsbruck on a full tank. From Munich all the way up to Berlin most of the A9 is unlimited.

I had to refill at the old border and then I was empty again when I got home.

It was on January 2nd three years ago in the middle of the night. Luckily it was barely above freezing and no snow or anything.

It's been a while since the last post and people have hopefully not forgotten about this.

Looking at the immensely massive participation of six people on doodle, I say this will happen on Saturday, July 29th.

I'll start out hammering details, hopefully with the support of indi and Overspark.

If July 29th is it, then that is it. If PAX does not interfere, I will be there.

So, those of you who will show up... of course Overspark and me will work out a programme with Joe. If any of you want some assistance with accommodation (where to stay, where not to stay) or have questions about (public) transportation, let me know.
