    Damn, that sucks.

I've got everything booked up, I'll be riding down on Friday. I'm staying in the Ibis hotel across from the railway station, is there any chance of a low key meet up that night? I'll probably arrive about 8-9ish pm.
We sure can. I am at the City resort hotel across the ibis on the other side of the train station (or so).
Cool, hopefully I'll arrive earlier, there's lots of buffer in my travel schedule.
Unless something pops up (and this is not entirely outside the realm of possibility), it should be possible to meet up for a drink or so. Let me know (Joe/Thorjak/whoever else is coming) what you want to do on the Saturday. Want to see the town? Want to eat out? Etc.

Calling again (last opportunity today) for input for a programme. If nobody responds, that means it'll boil down to having a drink somewhere and perhaps a dinner

How about a tour of the city before hitting a place for dinner and beers?

That was the plan for the Berlin meet up and it was good (granted, a tour of Berlin also takes a fair bit of time, and we did a short one).

Bonus points for hitting pubs along the way.

One is free, the other costs (a little bit) of money

I'm not opposed to making a programme for you, please don't read that into it. But I have a fairly busy week coming up and so far it's only you who is contributing something. THat means we can also just go and play it by ear on saturday. I don't mind that. But I don't have the time or inclination to herd cats

Wander round the local area sounds good, I just need to know where & when to show up. I don't mind if it costs a bit.

I'm arriving Friday evening, but could be late, so Saturday morning is safest. Contact details are available in case I end up with spare time on Friday.

Friday I'll be (from the looks of it right now) firmly in the office, which is located in Rotterdam.

    Options:

Saturday 10AM (coffee and then a walk, etc)
Saturday 12:30PM (lunch and then a walk, etc)
    Saturday 15:00 (walk -> drinks -> dinner)

OK, after a short discussion with Joe, this is going to be it:

Meetup at 15h at the Morspoort (bridgeside).
I'll take you guys on a walk. (Feel free to do a watertour on your own either before or after, it's really different and fun).
For dinner I suggest Buddhas. Note: this is a busy restaurant and will require reservations in time. Please let me know Thursday afternoon by the latest if you want to have dinner here (obviously, you pay for your own food ) Another option could be sushi.
Drinks can be done at several places, depending on whether you want beer or wine.

If anyone is in Leiden earlier, like Friday evening, I suggest meeting up at the main train station at 7pm for dinner.

If anyone needs a pick up from the airport in Amsterdam, please pm me. I got my car with me and am willing to do a pick up run. Keep in mind I'll try to only drive there once. So if it's more than one person, one of you has to wait a bit (I'll try to not make it too bad by showing up early etc).

    I'd rather not have Sushi.

Also, what about a proper Dutch restaurant?

There is no such thing. Something that's proper Dutch you could try on Friday is a pancake restaurant - there is one at the Steenstraat that I seem to recall has good reviews (all you can eat there is pancakes.. wouldn't call that a restaurant or typically Dutch food - the idea of a pancake restaurant is however something weirdly Dutch). Something that is not Dutch per se but can pretty much only be found here is 'Nederlands Indisch' - Dutch Indonesian, for lack of a better translation. It is the kitchen that developed when East and West met in the Dutch Indies. There is a lot of average Nederlands Indisch cooking, if you want a good one you're better off in The Hague than in Leiden. Proper Dutch barfood is bitterballen, but few people have dinner on that

PS Going out to dinner with me means you are restricted (because I am) to restaurants that can cater to my dietary requirements. There's enough choice and most Asian restaurants are fine. If you don't like Asian there are one or two other places we could go. (There's also the option of going without me and I honestly don't mind. I don't want to hold people back from their fantasies of overdosing on bitterballen or poffertjes ;-) )

I suggested Buddhas because it is one of the most popular restaurants in Leiden and has fair prices (be prepared, Dutch restaurants and bars are pricier than German ones).

    Other options (not sushi) are:
Catootje aan de Markt - quaint little place, has decent food. Will also require reservations as it's quite small.
Logica - nice spot, good food

Other than very upscale restaurants or some places you're more likely to go for the terrace and people watchery, those would be my recommendations. Please let me know which one you (Joe/Thorjak/whoever) prefer and whether you want me to make a reservation.

Buddha's or Logica both sound fine, I'm OK with either.
