It is happening, new drive added, now RAID6 is doing its thing:

Total time for the reshaping, about 30h. The annoying part is that it takes the same amount of time regardless if it is one or five drives being added.

How much would such a connection cost in the UK and what are you doing that needs that performance?

Just wondering, my 250 Mbit is plain overkill for my household needs.

Well I don't really need it but it was pretty much free.

When I signed up for FTTH in December they had a deal where you got 200/200 for the price of 100/100 which is the bottom tier. That cost £28/month.
Two weeks ago I noticed they had reduced 500/500 from £38 to £30 a month. The temptation to get 2.5x the speed for another £2 a month was too big. In addition to that I had just received a £300 Amazon voucher because I raised a complaint during the fibre construction outside the house.

So in the end I get the first 10 months free and the following 8 months will be £30/month which at the most can go up to £33/month when the next contract period starts.

I will probably host http://www.mashie.org on my home connection at some stage.

I got a gigabit line for £35/m but that is only for the first year, then it will jump up to £110 and I'll probably do a hefty downgrade then (and consequently can't be so smug anymore)

I don't even know how much mine costs, one of the perks of living in a rather large housing association, it's all baked into my monthly fee. However, I'd expect 350 households to get quite the rebate.

A gigabit line would cost 600 sek so roughly £50.

That's not bad. I would have kept my gigabit line for that price. Maybe I'll be able to negotiate the price once a year has passed on my current sub

One of the perks of living in a country that is at least pretending not to let corporations fuck over it's citizens at every turn.

    Oh dang! Nice cases!

I was a very active case modder back in the day before I started playing EVE in 2006. Since then I have only made one case which has since been retired (my old NAS).

Thanks, the Y2k Bug may have had some inspiration from the Matrix movies.

It was definitely my most ambitious project with moving wings, water cooled PSU, windowed HDD's and so on.

So, what is the preferred program for ripping audio CDs and organizing music? I've used Zune and iTunes in the past, and am wondering if there is something better.

EAC for ripping when I am in a mood. Otherwise insert CD, open with foobar and FLAC it.

    For me that's Foobar.

What it offers for me that makes it better than the others I've tried: it allows to create the file names for the ripped tracks by utilizing various variables filled from the tag/CD information, such as CD #, track # etc. That's important to me, as I'm an album listener, not a (single) track listener. And I find tracks occuring out of (CD) order annoying, e.g. for live albums. "Playlist" is an obscure, may I even say "arcane" concept to me.

For the occasional retagging, I use https://www.mp3tag.de/en/

Foobar can also download and tag songs automagically before ripping.

It has been ages since I ripped my CD collection I can't even remember what software I used. It might have been foobar. It did all the tag info which saved a lot of time.
