Yeah what stopped me from really enjoying the first one was the tiny scale of the 'fleets'

Also I thought the table top featured the escorts in squadrons? I always thought it was a big :thonk: that they were packaged as singletons rather than a squad

    Thoughts so far:

Very pretty. Love the detail, it's like playing the board game again. Even the 2D doesn't bother me. Runs well, solid 60 with maxed settings.
Not sure I like the total war-style campaign map feel. Fucking loathe TW games and it's bringing back bad feelings.
Didn't realise it had co-op campaigns... that's rather awesome. If anyone wants to try it hit me up.
Scout ships with scan ability are essential against eldar, otherwise they just fuck off and snipe you in invisible bullshit mode while you crawl into scan range. Also fuck off GW, adding an A to their name doesn't make them new and only serves to fuck with my nostalgia.
Game takes control away from the player far too often. Let me move around the map while your characters spend 5 minutes spouting bollocks at the start or end of a mission ffs.

Edit: Wonder how turn-based combat would have worked out, instead of real-time? I almost think I'd have preferred it.

I actually like how the Total War style campaign plays out. It gives a good feeling of the daunting task of Lord High Admiral of the Aegis Ocularis during the 13th Black Crusade.

    Fucking Tyranids reee

Not going to lie. The last Warhammer computer game I played was Space Hulk on my Amiga 500 when I was 13 years old. And Space Crusaders (which was pretty neat as it was an isometric style squad tactical strategy game ala x-com long before x-com existed).

I played Space Crusade on amiga too, I remember that you had to choose bewteen music or SFX. The closest thing today is warhammer 40k mechanicus (or the new space hulk I guess)

bought it, I'll probably see about playing it once the current GTA craze among my friends dies down, anyone know of any good tutorials on how to play competently? I'm betting that the campaign AI isn't going to teach me how to murder other humans effectively.

FYI : you can up the deployment limit by editing your save file as well.

currently rolling three full fleets and clearing out Nemesis Tessera.

16th Gothic Battlefleet under Spire with :
    1x Retribution Class
2x Armageddon Class (figure, salvage from the battle of Cadia)
    1x Dictator Class
    2x Cobra Class

    14th Mars Battlefleet under Cambrius
    1x Ark Mechanicus
    2x Lunar Class
    2x Defiant Class

1st Imperial Fists Shadow Fleet under Mauluan
    1x Barge mk. 1
    2x Strike Cruiser mk. 1

the pain-train is real, but you gotta micro a lot with all that on the field.
    Viking, n.:
    1. Daring Scandinavian seafarers, explorers, adventurers, entrepreneurs world-famous for their aggressive, nautical import business, highly leveraged takeovers and blue eyes.
    2. Bloodthirsty sea pirates who ravaged northern Europe beginning in the 9th century.

Hagar's note: The first definition is much preferred; the second is used only by malcontents, the envious, and disgruntled owners of waterfront property.

Sure, getting spire out of the Lunar is a good idea, but this is like spawning a bunch of doomstack armies in a total war campaign using the console.

    Why even bother?

because the enemy fleets scale with you, so you're rocking about in 1k fleets, but so is the AI, straight out of the gate, everything works both ways, so rather than spending half the campaign fiddling with light cruisers, i've got the full monty off the bat, and massive economy trouble along with it.

    they look awesome though.

but if you want to go for efficency, you'd be better off massing cruisers and grand cruisers.

unless you're space marines, then it's all about the light cruiser silent running boarding madness.

I want more Plasma Macro Batteries.

Campaign AI is less bad than expected, but still bad. Its actually capable of applying Eldar DPS and then Vauls before you can land a high energy turn broadside + mass board far better than most humans, which cost me my only losses of the campaign so far to dead generators (falling out of the line only gets you shit on by the reinforcements).

I remember the table top ones also not being that great. They were a bullet sponge but didn't actually do much more than a smaller ship.

that can be solved by moar overlords in a companion fleet.

    To appropriate a quote:

"At the point in time when plasma can pass through the interdimensional walls. When plasma takes up the entirety and eternity of space and time, all beings stuck in a neverending life and death cycle as plasma recovers and destroy their bodies in quick succession. No one is able to think about anything but the sheer force of the plasma rapidly flying literally everywhere in the materium turning the warp itself into nothing but a sea of plasma.. Then there will be enough plasma. Or, at least almost."
