Fair warning: this guy is the neckbeardiest of neckbeards.
If your youtube name is "Chapter Master Valrak" I'd imagine that would be the case yes.
He unironically uses "By the Emperor" and calls his viewers "brothers".
    So....yeah.

    Nice
he's not a bad guy by any means. I feel that a warning was needed for the less nerdy people that might follow the link though, because he is pretty....enthusiastic.

Nothing wrong with that if it's done convincingly enough, awesome even.

Again agreed. I have no issues with him at all...he loves what he does. He just wouldn't be all that palatable for many here i suspect.

The beta is two tutorial missions, ranked 1v1 and 2v2 multiplayer and 1v1 vs the AI.

Seems good so far. All of the factions are included, so I spent a couple of hours trying some out in skirmishes vs the AI.

It seems most of the annoying game modes (kill the flagship before it warped out anyone?) have been removed and it is strictly a battle with various cap zones dotted around.

Fleets seem bigger, which was one of my problems with the first game. The old factions got a bunch of new ships to flesh them out, and the new factions are fairly different. Game has also been stable and bug free so far.

The micro management got worse. Unless I am missing something you can't put auto-use on your various ship abilities (in the previous game you could right click on boarding and the ship would launch boarders when in range). This combined with the larger fleet sizes means controlling things can get a bit difficult. There are still various balance issues in the game (you can spam nova cannons for example still)

    I love him now.

Think he is actually literally crying after the first missino when the fortress falls in the cut-scene.
He is invested in the lore and not playing some character, awesome.

But by the fucking emperor start of the second mission and he still canīt differentiate between the tutorial popups and the objectives. Totally clueless what is going on.

Sat in the beta trying every race out.

Killed myself as Tau merchant fleets because I never saw their ships and didnt realise they had broadside seeker launchers on the big boys, then didnt realise they had NOSE launchers on the little guys and blew up my own battlesherp. Was pretty mad.

Ork Mega-Rok is some serious bullshit. Bullshit that I LOVE.

I just tried Necrons. They have like nothing on the description in the fleet menu and then they all come with pbaoe-shockwaves, fighters, teleporters and what not.
Really have to try some more stuff today.

I like the look of the campaign overall though, should be fun. To those who've been beta'ing it; how open are the beta periods? is it just a small window or more like an open beta over a period of weeks?

    Itīs basically pre-start right now.

Multiplayer with all factions now, SP campaign for imperium and Necrons (only the first part of each) are fully functional and the full game unlocks in a week from now.

Its got a few missing lines of text and broken tooltips, but its pretty good.

Improvements to the combat from the previous game, as well.

Beta windows are limited segments of the full game, but are fully functional as they stand.

Launches today by the look of it. Worth a full-price purchase for someone who didn't play the first one? Seems to be getting raves so far (bar a few butthurts).

campaign is good, but you, Legendary Admiral Spire, savior of the Gothic sector, is stuffed in a fucking lunar class and have to grind half the god damn fucking game to get the big boats.

this, is completely fucking unacceptable, and can be remedied wiith a hex editor, look here.

FYI : Single player fleet builds are capped at 1k points, so that's a battleship, a pair of cruisers to cover whatever the battleship does badly and a bit leftover for shits and giggles. (as imperial, you could go for the grand cruiser flagship and then load up on battlecruisers, it looks perfectly viable tbh)

unless you're rocking power armor, because that way you get a mk.1 barge, a pair of cruisers, and maybe a escort or two, if you're lucky. (and no, do not use the Mk. 2 battle barge, the lance configuration suuuucks at everything but poking holes in escort heavy fleets)

of course, the kicker is your command limit tops out at 1350, so you're not going to get much more than a cruiser and pocket lint in actual battle reinforcements when you bring multiple fleets.

edit : or, if you want to be stupid, but wonderful, just run a Emperor+2xRetribution, it fits with 21 points left over

    Viking, n.:
    1. Daring Scandinavian seafarers, explorers, adventurers, entrepreneurs world-famous for their aggressive, nautical import business, highly leveraged takeovers and blue eyes.
    2. Bloodthirsty sea pirates who ravaged northern Europe beginning in the 9th century.

Hagar's note: The first definition is much preferred; the second is used only by malcontents, the envious, and disgruntled owners of waterfront property.
