    ah, sorry about that.

you're in the clear then, though perhaps you lot should consider copying the "denier" system used in the rest of Scandinavia, it's basically civil-service instead for the same period.

There is a remote - and we are talking Bouvet Island remote here - chance that it wasn't the Russians or at least wasn't ordered by Putin.

The use of nerve agent says State Actor but that doesn't limit it to Russia. The attack seems clumsy, with a high chance of killing non-targets, so whoever did it either fucked up or didn't know what they were doing. I presume that as the UK has more CTV cameras than Orwell's Airstrip One that the authorities will have all the possible suspect/s on film and will be looking for the one/s who left the UK immediately after the attack.

It is mostly likely to be the Russians but there still is the chance that it is a false flag.

risk vs reward, who stands to gain from escalated tensions between Britain and Russia?

Who doesn't like Putin or Russia - the list is rather large.

The whole incident appears to have been deliberately provocative. Using chemical weapons against the CWC is a big deal, using it on foreign soil in a way that borders on a terrorist attack is exceptionally provocative.

I am sure that once the suspect/s are identified it will become clearer.

Smells like an intentionally sub-article-5 attack designed to make people question the value of certain western alliances and organisations.

The normal disinformation accounts are out in force on social media now pushing the "it was someone else" narrative, so I am instantly suspicious of that.

Could be a power play within Russian intelligence agency against putin. Either force him to step up rhetoric or admit to losing control of the fsb?

they'd be out in force regardless, it's neither confirming nor denying the narrative.

besides, it's not like the UK cannot hurt Russian interests trough sanctions alone, with all that wealth tied up into the financial crime capital of the world and so forth.

The irony is that the few Russian media outlets reporting the story are going with the "it's an attempt to interfere with our Presidential elections" narrative.

An the other irony is the fact that the USA, often using assets based in allied nations, uses its drones to assassinate who the fuck it wants with no concern for collateral damage and no one says boo about it.

You'll noted that I'm pretty much stating that Russia did it, but it pays to follow due process before taking action because there is always a chance that someone may take advantage of a knee-jerk reaction.

Have they forgot the recent statements they made implying all Russian traitors will face the same fate. Also denouncing the UK as a place Russians should make their home.

    This.

At the moment "counter arguments" are nothing more than a good way of identifying unreliable sources.

I strongly advise you to asses where you got those counter-arguments from Max.

it just seems to monumentally baize and stupid to do it this way. Putin is many things, but dumb and bad at politics are not on that list by a long shot, assuming May doesn't fold(and she propably will) it seems like the risk of the whole thing turning into a enormous own goal is far to large to justify the gains in terms of intimidating defectors abroad.

nor is it played out for public consumption at home much.

Unless he's it doing to prove he's got May in his pocket when she folds in order to satisfy his oligarch chums.

I didn't get those counter arguments from anywhere. I am well aware of what the Russians have said, and of past assassinations. But this is a step further than the usual methods.

All I want is proper process so the UK can identify the guilty party first.
