I bet the Mongols never helped out the locals by giving them diesease-ridden blankets.
no, they had enough balls to do their genocides up front and center, with sword in hand.
Actually they threw their disease ridden corpses over the walls of cities they besieged and thus brought the Black Death to Europe. So basically, they did to us what we would do to the Americans 150-200 years later.

Some studies indicate that the Black Death that devastated Europe in the late 1340s may have traveled from China to Europe along the trade routes of the Mongol Empire. In 1347, the Genoese possessor of Caffa, a great trade emporium on the Crimean Peninsula, came under siege by an army of Mongol warriors under the command of Janibeg. After a protracted siege during which the Mongol army was reportedly withering from disease, they decided to use the infected corpses as a biological weapon. The corpses were catapulted over the city walls, infecting the inhabitants.[123] The Genoese traders fled, transferring the plague via their ships into the south of Europe, from where it rapidly spread. The total number of deaths worldwide from the pandemic is estimated at 75–200 million with up to 50 million deaths in Europe alone.[124]

there's a rather large gulf between throwing disease ridden corpses over the walls in a siege situation and trading smallpox blankets to the natives. just sayin.
    Viking, n.:
    1. Daring Scandinavian seafarers, explorers, adventurers, entrepreneurs world-famous for their aggressive, nautical import business, highly leveraged takeovers and blue eyes.
    2. Bloodthirsty sea pirates who ravaged northern Europe beginning in the 9th century.

Hagar's note: The first definition is much preferred; the second is used only by malcontents, the envious, and disgruntled owners of waterfront property.

Both were deliberate acts of biological warfare to win a siege. In the instance of Fort Pitt,* it was defensive by the besieged, in Caffa it was to done by the besieging forces.

*The only documented case of smallpox blanket use against Native Americans.

They also firebombed cities with burning fat harvested from the corpses of their enemies.

Part of an effort to detoxify the Daily Mail I suppose.

How Dacre and Greig are going to work together during the transition I have no idea. The two hate each other with a vengeance.

I'm gonna miss the regular Dacre vs. Greig stories in the Eye though ... always good for a laugh ...

Speaking of laughs: does Greig have the last laugh here?

Again, one reaches for the metaphors to describe the Conservatives attempting to negotiate Brexit, and one finds only the Conservatives attempting to negotiate Brexit.

Piss-ups in breweries present all kinds of entirely legitimate logistical problems. For those unfamiliar with the banjo, a cow’s arse is an intimidating target.

In trying to explain the latest developments in the Greatest, Most Spectacular, Most Pyrotechnic, Champagne Super Cluster Shambles Of Them All, the word “like” is of precious little use.

Only 3% more people in Northern Ireland would prefer to be attached to Brexit England than EU Ireland.

Who knew the Conservative Unionist Party would end up presiding over the public collapse of support of Union, and the passion project of the UK Independence Party would lead to the end of the United Kingdom?

It's almost as if their proclaimed "patriotism" was never anything but small-minded xenophobic nationalism.

there are rumblings here (Jersey) about how the UK haven't actually told us anything about our status post-Brexit, along with various interpretations of our right to self determination vis a vis the Lisbon Treaty

going to be an interesting year tbqh
