Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves for slaughter.

I'm curious: who exactly decides which animals are supposed to be eaten by humans and which are not? And on what grounds is this decision based upon?

Obviously you mean the correct texts and not that heresy those people over there spread, right?

The official numbers could easily be off by a factor of 10. And given the incubation period of ~14 days....

Not really. I'm quite surprised that quite a lot of Americans wouldn't eat horse meat or rabbit meat.

Keep in mind that the official death statistic is probably being underreported. Severely. It is china after all.

Anectdotally, my chinese coworkers' phone rang all day because, and i quote, "they cant meet up to celebrate new year because the governement discourages groups meeting to limit the spread of the disease, so everyone is spamming text messages". That, despite none of them living in / having visited Wuhan. Crazy stuff, imagine being able to forbid more than a billion people to socialize, and not getting laughed out of the room.

Keep in mind it may be bullshit, we are halfway around the world after all. But... https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/ne...tbreak-1272566

Oh and also, rumour is the outbreak started 3 miles away from a level 4 infectious disease lab aka a bioweapons research facility by a nicer name? Fun.

Twitter-verse is starting to sound the alarm on the China situation with regard to this outbreak.

China is mobilizing it's military to deal with the virus outbreak...

Guess where is situated the "Chinese lab poised to study world's most dangerous pathogens"?

    Yep, Wuhan.

Look likes Wuhan is the chinese "Raccoon City".

Sure, but horses are still working animals in a lot of Europe. Here they are companions, if they work.

Problem with all these videos is attribution.

How do you know these videos were taken in Wuhan? Or even within the past few years, etc? No context for any of this stuff. Same goes for Spawnite's video.

Edit: NYT is using some of these clips, including the one of the freaking-out nurse and the folks collapsed in the street. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/24/w...ronavirus.html

There has been a fair amount of fear mongering and xenophobia stoking in the media around this whole thing. Not surprising, just

I'll go one further and just call it racist bullshit. Diet is cultural, you think no-one ever died from eating a sick cow or sheep?

To be absolutely clear, there is no evidence of misreporting. Keep in mind, Chinese authorities were already accused early on of lying about the nature of the virus, that it was really an outbreak of SARS.

It is now widely acknowledged to be a unique strain (now called nCoV-2019).

Ding-ding-ding! And even if they are relevant, a lot of things are being taken out of context. Thousands of people who are afraid of being sick (but likely not being sick at all) are flooding to area hospitals to be checked. Medics are experiencing a sudden extreme workload. Some people are going to have difficulty coping in this situation. It's a natural, ordinary response.
