Longtime family friend reported that his son died of COVID. Father and son not vaccinated, both were overweight, son had mild asthma. Son leaves behind two young daughters.

Aunt has covid, says it's not a joke. Says she's getting better. Not vaccinated.
A month or two ago, her brother got the Pfizer shot (and sheepishly admitted it when asked by my father) after his wife got covid and was hospitalized. She was not vaccinated.
I do not know the vax status of the rest of my dad's side of the family, but they're mostly hard-core Republicans, so I have a good guess.

Dad has his booster shot scheduled. He's debating whether he should get a third Pfizer shot or get a Moderna one. I will probably be getting a Pfizer shot after getting two Moderna shots.

Three people in my workgroup got booster shots this past Friday, two of them were knocked out for about a day.

I literally havent met anyone who admits to being unvaccinated or even about having reservations. Howcome you have so many in your sphere of influence?

I work in healthcare.

At the moment there is a LOT of pushback from support and allied professional grades about the mandate that's coming in for NHS staff and contractors.

Doctors? Very little to none, not that I have a lot of direct exposure to the doctors.

Porters, Domestics, HCAs, Doctor's Assistants, Nurses? Everyone of those bands has a vocal minority that's refusing to get vaccinated and assuming the government will fold and cancel the demand because we'd lose too many staff.

You would be surprised how many retarded doctors there are pushing against vaccinations. It's mind-blowing stupid, best proof there is you can graduate medicine and be as stupid as a lamp post. I hope at one point there will be literally jail time for running your mouth with conspiracies, this is literally killing people. You don't want to get vaccinated? Fine. Go sit home and live off whatever you live off. Don't go near other people. You get COVID? Fuck you, pay up the hospital costs, regardless of free healthcare at the point of service.

People now say that there are drugs to treat covid. Yes, there are. They're also stupid expensive and they are available if you get the disease. They also don't cure stupid either. There's also a rather limited supply and they incur incredible costs to the healthcare system and they should be reserved for people who can't get the vaccine for medical reasons or unlucky people where the vaccine didn't take up (there are some cases with three doses and fuck all antibodies).

I mean at this point the stupid are literally killing other people, where does it end? If you were dumb as fuck and a drunk high on whatever you wouldn't be allowed to drive a car, but unvaccinated people are allowed to run around and be live petri dishes for this shit to keep reproducing, spreading and mutating until we end up with an incurable super lethal bug and we all get fucked. Seriously, what is wrong with the world.

Today had my first run in with a real covid nutter, he was vocally claiming that everyone should know that the covid tests were actually developed in 2014 and the whole thing is engineered like Lief says. He was also demanding that one small association should also absolutely get an electron microscope as having it is just essential.

Well, I've been doing that for several weeks now. Can't say it feels bad either - the amount of people that now have it or have potentially been exposed is insane. Most of those are vaccinated and healthy, so won't end up in hospital. But I'm not surprised by the numbers of people actually in hospital anymore.

Edit: I'm not worried about the actual office. It's easy to keep a lot of distance. Getting there, though...

Spoken like someone (who like me) lives in this day and age. It used to be much worse.

Europe lost between 30 and 60% of its population to the black death, back in the day. The 2005 estimate of mortality of the Spanish flu is 3% (world wide).

It's not fine now by any means. But the data shows clearly that in the countries that were lucky / rich enough to vaccinate, a lot of deaths have been prevented. (Mind you, if the current shenanigans keep up we'll lose people to other diseases because the IC beds are occupied by covid-patients. Yes, most of those are unvaccinated.)
