As pointed out by Max, the problem is the parasites that can pretty easily cross infect both parties. My father is an under keeper for some landed nouveau riche. Whilst helping him we always did 'tick checks' now and again (visual check for any/all crawley bitey things on the ankles, arms, any exposed skin and get someone else to look at the back of neck and collar line) and wear tall socks and long trousers/gaiters. Sure, shorts and t-shirts are much more comfortable when working ... until the horse flies / ticks / mossies / midges decide you are on the dinner menu.

BTW Ticks are utter little fuckers and can carry/cause encephilitis, which is an utter bitch to diagnose and sort out.

I think transfer is possible via bites (enzym/saliva injection from an infected parasite iirc) although unlikely, but depending on exposure level the risk may increase. And you are correct in that human to human respiratory transfer is the main vector, so with people feeding and petting deer there is the chance of transfer via saliva etc, but still unlikely. I have no data to back up either possibility so i guess the point is moot.

The discussion is pretty silly because of how widespread covid is overall, it's not like it's been eradicated in humans and we are fearing the escape to deer as a refuge. It has a refuge in the anti-xav type in any place with deer as a population sizeable enough to matter. In the global south it's got a refuge due to horrible economic reasons and when that is resolved it will have anti-vax morons there to deal with as well. even 10 percent of the human population, hell even 5% would be enough to keep it around. Massacre continues. While official daily new infections have finally dropped to ~3500, after staying at 7000 for 3 months, daily deaths are still 50+. They never broke 70 but one of leading doctors quietly said on TV that 1.5-2x number is more likely. Positivity rate is still extremely high and numbers look as massaged as ever.

So some 5000 to 15000 deaths in Serbia in just this autumn. I think its beyond any doubt that just deaths in Serbia for entire pandemic outstrip all deaths in Yugoslav civil wars, both civilian and military on all sides.

Maybe a month back they introduced requirements for Covid passes in clubs and restaurants after 22h and harshened it to 20h some 10 days back. Some places actually fully reduced their working hours to not have to worry about control, but all the big clubs and restaurants owned by government friendly criminals are still working to 1AM or 2AM.

They announced much harsher control of mask mandate in public transit and shopping malls, but its a joke, maybe 10% of folks are waring masks correctly and maybe 20% more having them under chin or at hand in case of inspection appearing, everyone else knows Corona is over.

There have been repeated protest by antivax antimask crowds in front of houses of some notable doctors from the government team in charge, God forbit not in front of minister of heath or PMs houses.

Considering how much Vucic and Orban are learning from each other on the subject on "how to be beloved absolutist dictator whose ever word is law while pretending to be a democracy" I'm not surprised that numbers and behavior in Hungary and comparably lulzy.

It started off with a small demonstration and then apparently yoof got involved. A few days ago one of the members of parliament told a colleague he would face "tribunals". The alt right is not even trying to hide anymore. Conclusion: I feel I landed in dystopia, which is utter bollocks. This country is wealthy and happy - if only it shared this a bit more evenly amongst its population.

What the heck is wrong with the world

I mean I can understand people have had it with lockdowns and what not, I am an introvert and I feel like climbing my apartment's walls in frustration but that doesn't mean it should escalate to this level of stupid. A doctor friend of mine cynically said that the corona outbreak was actually too mild, if people were dying in droves in an even more visible and horrifying way (think Ebola/Marburg) then maybe people wouldn't have shown such moronic attitude. I can't help thinking that it sounds potentially true, but how many people have to die in a stupid way for these manifestations to end? The deaths are up like heck throughout the unvaccinated and some vaccinated people are not entirely protected albeit you get a much milder form of the disease if vaccinated.

I feel it's a combination of education (or lack of thereof) and so much entitlement that the planet is barely coping. I know I'd like to live in the mountains away from people more than ever.

It is a bit weird seeing those pictures of places i walk weekly. Never heard so many helicopters in the sky over Rotterdam, i live 2 km away from the riots.

It was not just about 'rona tho. There has been a lot of bottled up anger in Dutch society for 10 or so years (tax burden, corrosion of authority, crime, cost of living, gutting of workers rights, immigration, housing shortage). Our government is handling the pandemic in a terrible fashion since day 1 and just flat out lying over a dozen times now. They are the best allies for anti-vax muppets themself.
The comment Indi made about right-wing FvD saying there will be Tribunals has its roots in those lies sprinkled with a heavy dose of kray kray of course.

It has come to the point where the Covid health council wants its secret advice memoranda published because they feel the government is using the secrecy as a tool for measures they did not recommend (while the government says they did and their hands are tied as a result of the advice).

In many places the anger and anxiety is indeed starting to boil from many reasons as the wealth inequality increases, population age distribution changes, pension systems are under stress, climate disaster looms in the horizon and healthcare systems are in the verge of collapse. Loads of reasons, just hope the anger and protests would be directed into the other problems and not just the immediate covid stuff, as it really isn't the root cause why people are unhappy and there are no playstations in the store to buy or you can't cope with the rent.

I hate to say it but I feel like the Internet and specifically Social Media is hastening the race towards global collapse.

We're in it already. Mankind might have had a chance to get climate change fixed somewhat in Glasgow, if it would have been the only global "headline" and pressure from the streets kept building up.

But now we're one week away and mainstream news has gone all quite quiet on it already. COVID-19 is the only topic. I get it, it is a pressing matter - but in the long run, it'll be irrelevant compared to what consequences climate change will have. And it will happen sooner than most of us expected it to happen a decade ago, i.e. I saw a serious projection that in Germany the temperature will rise to +3° til 2050. That's within my old fart's statistical life span. I knew I'll experience a rise in temperature, but 3°? I thought fortunately I'll be long dead and gone before that happens here.

yeah, it seems more likely each passing year that my previous "at least I don't have to suffer the brunt of it" attitude to the climate crisis, rising inequality and our pension system teetering on the verge of collapse was too optimistic.
