Unfortunately not, in Europe at least everything is "back to normal". Except it isn't and people are still dying from COVID and spreading this shit like wildfire since nobody is wearing masks anymore - well, I personally do and I enjoy the leper-like looks I'm getting. As somebody who is still struggling with long COVID, fuck people, seriously, fuck them with a stick.

It's nice to be able to live more or less normally right now, but it would be better if we were able to use a few simple mitigations, e.g. masks on public transport, but that's gone in the UK at least.

On a more serious note, you can always choose to wear a mask, I doubt you'd be fined for it or anything. Yes, you'll get some looks. Fuck those people (not literally tho).

Since that's relevant to me, can you recommend a website to check the rules in Portugal? I am flying to Lissabon on Friday and staying there for a week.

Its exactly this approach that disappoints me about the western world. We all wish covid had not happened but we seem to be 'trying to get back to normal' i.e. ignore the problem in the hope it will go away. If we were not so focussed on making money, we could have limited this virus to a few countries at most, but our inability to do sensible things against our personal interests, not to mention the various lobbies which hold sway within our collective governments have perpetuate this issue way beyond what it should have been.

The quote repeatedly trotted out seems to be: 'we just need to live with it'. What complete and utter bullshit. There is a problem (covid) and was a solution (blanket time limited isolation and testing). We half arsed the time limited isolation part (we allowed flights and work to continue officially and turned a blind eye to the considerable numbers of meetings/get togethers/parties/visits) which allowed the virus to not only spread, but to mutate into a more transmissible form (with the issue that another mutation could render all immunisations defunct and be significantly more deadly, just by numbers of infections or by being actually more deadly to humans). Great fucking job guys and girls who couldn't resist 'socialising' for a short period of time. Great fucking job. I hated the lockdown (masturbation has lost its fun ), but I’ll be more than happy to perform another 3 weeks or month of isolation in order to rid the world of covid (which would also reduce a significant of other transmissible diseases).

And yes i am incredibly bitter about the situation. When the next virus comes along we will have learnt nothing as per usual.

It is endemic now. Only way to 'cope' with it is to adjust healthcare systems. More ICU beds per capita, more ventilators, progress in meds and or vaccines. That stuff in general. When there is a real hard surge up for a new covid strain bring back limited measures i would say.

It's mad contagious yo. If China and it's ridiculously draconian powers couldn't contain it nothing could.

A reminder that as a species we have eliminated only one contagious disease. Smallpox was incredibly stable and did not mutate and that is why we have the luxury of referring to it in the past tense.

"Dealing with it" is really our only way of dealing with it, could we have dealt with it better? Absolutely, but these are our options now; vaccinate or pursue a sisyphean task of eradication.

In a haphazerd way that has been tried for 1/3 of the world population and only the Asian part managed good/decent (not perfect).

NL was closed but airlines for a small part were allowed. Not saying that was the biggest issue but looking at national lockdown and entrance that was pretty dumb. Could dissect more of course.

In any case i doubt we will learn lessons from this as the axe was applied not a surgeons knive. I was very strict in following the rules because of my clients/patients still way to many died of Covid and I was really depressed about that. Dealing with the family members, as we do, was even worse. ).1

The deaths' ment even more as it had a 'label' called Covid.

So many people not being able to say the last words to the death, its a real trauma.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see more deaths from the economic fallout over the next few years than we did from covid. The tories are hell bent on austerity and squeezing the middle and bottom with tax raises.

All the while, the rich squeeze more and more from their customers and workers, reaping giant rewards and refusing to spend any of it in fully staffing their vital businesses, as seen in the airports right now in the UK all understaffed.

Understaffing over the whole of the west, many unemployed, unable to take jobs at poverty wages - the rich not budging on those offerings, public services collapsing from lack of resources, private services barely offering any actual services for the same reasons.

This is how the revolution is sparked.
