So currently cafes and restaurants are open till 23h, mostly packed, only ones wearing masks are waiters, if they even wear them properly and not below the nose. River clubs are officially closed and private security will tell inspectors that there is no one inside while you can hear the music and the crowds at 2AM.
I don't think that is the entire truth. Some age groups do better than others, i.e. don't end up in hospitals as much (but will go on to infect grandpa and grandma). Another thing: by the time that rises, you are very much not in control of the situation anymore. That's basically what happened here: numbers on the rise, low numbers in hospital, ladeedah and suddenly exploding hospital admissions. so, the culling has been halted because the government was too quick to react, it's now becoming a farcical scandal that belongs in "Yes minister!". TLDR : the "MUH PRIVATE PROPERTY!" Brigade has dug their heels in, there is no legal basis for culling every mink farm in the country and unlikely to be one as the situation is, we're looking at a non zero chance of a election happening over this issue and it turns out that the COVID strains in question are, maybe or maybe not quite as problematic for vaccine efforts as initially indicated. oh, and some FUCKWIT of the 93153215th degree decided that there is differential compensation for the mink farmers depending on if they're registered infected or not so it's pretty safe to assume that the self-reported test results are suspect.
the root issue here is two fold, A : the government knew this could be a problem back in mid august at the latest and didn't react until it became a problem, meaning no legal basis for the measures taken and B : the dumb minkfuckers lied about having the legal basis. they reacted in a panic because it looked really bad (and it did, it was abseloutely the correct response, and tbh it still is) but didn't do their homework and lied about it, so now a buttsore opposition (because they've been ridden like a gimp since the start of the pandemic) are making a "moral stand" for the rights of "small buisness" that happen to increase the pandemic risks significantly, and by the looks of reports that ticked in this evening, are lying trough their teeth to get maximum compensation, while not actually doing the culling.
