This seems to be fairly common in the US. Even with teenagers.

Well, you know how people get about their precious little carbon producing machines...

idk, maybe you'd change the default password when you do, as well.

How is it that the country which beat the Soviets in the cold war is now purchasing little bits of Stalinism from tech firms?
Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves for slaughter.

Company response was fair TBH, you don't change default password or set up 2FA you only got yourself to blame when things get hacked into.

Props to the blackhat for trolling and getting a response, but I don't think it was the preferred one for everyone. Did people take away "secure your stuff better" or "company should secure my stuff better?"

Because surveillance by enterprising companies is somehow more trustworthy then surveillance by the government. Even if the companies sell the data to the government.

Minor curiosity that they didn't mention COMPASS/BeiDou rather than GPS.
"No further punishment was imposed" hard to say whether this is the state deciding protecting pork production is more important than human lives, or if it's because there was also sufficient secondary surveillance radar coverage and it wasn't a risk but just a loss of a redundant system.
It should only ever be an inconvenience that a plane loses any comms, never directly cause a risk of crashing. Though it sure wouldn't be fun to have to land during a full-on radio loss, probably escorted by fighter and having to trust procedure that a flightpath & runway has been cleared for you, especially if it's affecting an area rather than 1 craft.
Remember to watch your Die Hard xmas film series at this time of year

I have one (not a ring one though) in the nursery. Only reason its there is because we can check the baby is ok periodically throughout the night to make sure he doesn't wrap something around him. Something that the normal audio-only baby monitor can't do.

Can't personally see any need for one when this isn't an issue though.

Parents are super concerned about child predators. Putting a camera in a child's bedroom may therefore seem like a natural reaction. But I would focus on door and common areas of the house.

Only other reason I can think of for putting cameras in a child's room as to review footage to see if you have a peeping tom problem.

WTF. First of all, let's put a camera accessible easily from the internet (most IP cameras are p. terrible at security) because we're worried about child predators? Second, what is a child predator doing in your house and how did they reach the child's room without anybody noticing?

Third - how is a peeping tom problem resolved by putting the camera indoors?

All your arguments are incredibly confusing to me unless people sleep with their house unlocked and take 2 bottles of benzos each before bed time.

Having a camera for the child predator thing, is pretty useless. Are you gonna glue your face to a screen all the time the baby sleeps?

I used to worked as a night watchman, and we had a bunch of surveillance cameras, but as I tried to explain to my employer, cameras are only useful when someone is monitoring them. Otherwise all you get out of it is "someone stole a car", but you don't need a camera to know that.

For the last time, it's not really about protecting the kids from anything except the evil notion that they're not their parents' personal property and ego-extensions

If they were really clever they would begin marketing a security system for these remote cameras.

An older story, but still important.

tl;dr: Logitech wireless devices, despite 128-bit encryption, are still vulnerable. That's a lot of wireless devices in corporate environments. Update the firmware.

    Wired KB/mouse ftw.

If it is written in Python it is most likely Machine Learning.

I can't understand what's the thing with wireless everything that happens lately. A wireless kb/mouse are good if they don't take up an USB slot imho (so they're BT), but I have only seen Apple doing it right, any other BT peripherals have incredibly annoying lag.

Otherwise if you have a desktop there is literally no reason at all to use wireless peripherals. After all, Unified Remote exists and is quite good.

TIL that Firefox has poor security when it come to rendering Unicode characters in web domains. It's going to be much harder to spot false URLs now.
