I had no idea what a droplet was before this thread, and I still don't.

Thank you Entrox for working on this so you can get back to collecting ad revenue and we can return to shitposting.

we don't, but it's much cheaper than using a single big server like when we had a dedicated server (it was like $70/mo for 2 cores and 2gb of ram) and it performs a shitload better since i have a server that only runs the database (2gb ram, 2 cores) and 3 web servers (512mb ram, 1 core) behind the load balancer (512mb ram, 1 core)

the man reason I opted for this solution is because a single core vps struggles with the load generated by apache alone so running both the webserver and the database wasn't really feasible, 2 webservers could handle the load but i decided to have a third so the site would keep running smoothly in the case one failed

it's safer since only the load balancer is reachable from the Internet and it has redundancy (if either web server fails it automatically gets disabled by the load balancer)

technically our only points of failure are the single database and load balancer. however if either has issues they can be restored in minutes since i run daily backups of the load balancer and hourly for the database

as convoluted as it may seem, this setup has resulted in $25/month savings and performs a lot better
