Implying you've added anything but your salty tears to any discussion about gaming since forever.

You all assume that preordering a game will somehow make me mad.

I don't know where this assumption is coming from. All you'll do is make me really, insufferably smug if the game turns out to be arse.

Read responses to RPS article before article: was heading for hyped.

Read RPS article: started being hyped, then saw that it's the same old klausewitz engine, no longer hyped.

I realise it's almost as flexible as the half life and unreal engines have always been, but I don't WANT fully abstracted combat, except as a way to shortcut one-sided affairs and timewastes in multiplayer.

If unit movement was also abstracted so that AI handles all but the broadest strategic movement, and we saw realistic engagements instead of mass everything and see what the RNG decides, that would be fine. Klausewitz can't handle that on any kind of large scale, so meh.

If paradox could prove me wrong, great. They wont.

More like the Klauseshitz engine. How long have they been using it now? Why they won't invest in new technology is baffling to me.

Hyped doesn't even begin to describe my feelings towards this game.

I'm happy that it's Paradox doing this. When the RPS article references a "Banksian Culture", I want to see what I feel is rarely a feature of 4X games: Small actors. The inevitability of conquest such as in the CIV games just creates larger and larger powers that fight one another while they eat up everyone else. The only game where I feel I routinely see smaller actors live into the medium game is in CK2. One of the most interesting things to me is when smaller actors emerge from schisms within a larger actor. Hopefully that's something I'll get to see in Stellaris.

My biggest hope with this, as it is coming from Paradox is that hopefully we'll see a new take on the genre away from the cookie cutter 4x space strategy game that are dime and a dozen and have plagued the market for some time now.

I'm not saying it's a sure thing, but paradox seldom lets me down.
