Pfft. Had a large galaxy with default settings, Fuckers spawned in with 4 planets, 500k defense fleet + 250k defense station and 2x 300k invasion fleets per planet. One of the planets was in the middle of my space, the other on the border.

I had a ~120k fleet and was the third biggest empire in the universe.

    I got raped.

Being massive is probably the counter.

Does the contingency attack machine empires as well?

Yep. Contingency just fucked my peaceful knowledge-gathering AI, along with 2x FEs, the half-galaxy-spanning hive-mind, my entire federation (the other half of the galaxy) and a reborn cybrex spawned explicitly to kill them. Shit is hard yo.

Guess my assimilators will need more than 25% of this galaxy in case they show up then.

Have they fixed the AI to actually be useful when these end game crises happen?

you can set your fleet to be the "lead fleet" and they follow your fleet, its pretty good.

but sometimes they don't... i dunno if its cause they can't get there, or their fleet isnt big enough, or a bug, or what its just they sometimes say, nahhh im just gunna sit in my home sys.

Pretty sure they had the lead fleet thing for a bit and yeah they mostly just don't follow you which is annoying.

Something in the update really fucked up the game speed.

How deep are you into it? I noticed it the moment I loaded my game thats ~250-300 years in. No difference in rate between slow & fastest.

Could be because I am continuing a game instead of starting a new one.

Think I'm nearly 150 years in but the whole galaxy is now claimed territory and I've nearly maxed out planets in my own territory which is about 1/5 of the whole galaxy.

Playing a game of 'Skynet gone into space to EXTERMINATE', enjoying it (all the new flavor texts!), however it is fucking with my sleeping pattern in a big way.

The sheer number of events that've been edited to cover robot-specific interactions is amazing.

The combat is actually improved as well, missiles are LESS worthless (although PD spam hard counters where the other systems cant be hard-countered still, soooo). Give it another 12 expansions and it'll be great. Revanchism as a mechanic is probably going to be required, though. Potentially even double (so ship rebuilds after losing big fights AND empire buffs for losing planets in war).

They also apparently updated all the events for hive minds too so they would have more appropriate text.

I dunno, havent gotten the DLCs after the initial hype fell off. Might do that soon since im going to be looking for a game i can pick up whenever for a bit.

From the base game, my main gripe was that it lacked flavour. Your empire is your character, yes, but id have expected leaders to be fleshed out much more. The aim game-design wise was still to create emergent storytelling i assume, but that just doesnt work so well for me if you cant identify with personalities. Doesnt seem like that has changed much yet.
