This is gonna be a good expansion
This is all (probably, tl;dr) fine and dandy but what about the FUCKING WARFARE AND FTL TYPES
Missiles are fine, space and groundwarfare is exciting, the midgame is fun, nothing to see here, move along.

Playing a game on a huge map. Successfully saw off both the pythagoras scourge and the portal people with my 100k fleet of pew. Thought I was doing pretty well until a resurgent empire dropped by with a 2mill fleet ended my game. I kinda like the idea of awakened empires but that level of disparity is pretty soul destroying. Every other race on the map shows as 'pethetic' compared to me, so a coalition wouldn't even cut it. I lose

Any funky tips to avoid this sort of thing or is it just luck of the draw?

Did you take another FE's planets previously?

IIRC that makes the odds of an FE awakening near 100% instantly.

Also you should probably have submitted to their request before they trashed your shit, each of the 4 types of awakened empire have a diplomatic option which lets you avoid obliteration. (and means you get to bandwagon alongside them while they smash your neighbors)

An awakened (aggressive) fallen empire is pretty much the most horrifying end-game crisis possible, alongside the War in Heaven event. If you share a border with them when it happens you only options are a first strike before they use their homeworlds massive resources to churn out ships or to submit instantly.

I reloaded. Figured out I'd 'liberated' the remants of another fallen empire that had been eviscerated by the pie scourge, which automatically made me support their independence, so when the big bad boys attacked it dragged me in with inevitable results. Since I'm a non-iron man scrub, I've rolled back and attempted to pincer said big bad boy between the pytherions and the portal dudes. Intel says his fleet power is "pathetic" but I can see at least one fleet of 700k idling nearby. I think this game may be a wash out.

An awakened FE can outproduce the rest of the non FE groups combined, War in Heaven is brutal

Stellaris is best if you RP it instead of min/max.

I made a race modeled after my wife's Brussels Griffon. Obsessed with food, sex and despises any other mammalian species.
